Breaking News

Hello fellow bloggers, readers and authors.

The Divas Book Blog are sad to say that we have come to a point in our blogging career where we are absolutely speechless. A bloggers duty is to read a book and write an honest review. Period! We started this blog because we wanted to read books and let other readers know what we really think about it.

What we will tell you might not shock you, but it´s rude as hell and we think this shouldn´t happen.
We´ve been seeing alot of Blog Tours lately who offer ARC´s in exchange for an honest review, but are ( at the same time ) not willing to support a review with less than a 3,5 rating. Seriously? Who came up with that?

Let us put this in other words for you guys:
We get invited to join a Blog Tour…we accept….we review….but then we get an email saying ” If you can´t rate this book with more than 3,5 stars, let us know…”. And then we get a chance to either ditch the Tour and post our review anyways, or we ditch the review and let the hosts give us something different to plaster on the internet just so there WON`T be a review with less than 3,5 stars.

We´re not trying to piss on anyone´s leg here…..we just don´t understand why we´re not permitted to be honest when a blogger should be nothing but!
Yes. We understand that authors struggle and want nothing more than to ” get out there”. Authors depend on reviews. Honest reviews.
Bloggers depend on their followers / readers who trust a bloggers opinion. It´s a devilish cycle….isn´t it?

So why would someone refuse to receive an honest opinion if they want one?
Surely, when a blog participates in a Blog Tour, the won´t rip the author / book apart. That´s rude. All can be said diplomatically so no harm can be done.

Our definition of Honesty:
Honesty means being trustworthy, loyal, fair, and sincere. It also means being straighforward and truthful.

The Divas Book Blog have been nothing but honest in our reviews. It´s really simple: If we liked a book and rated it with 5 stars, then that´s what we thought the book deserved. If we rated a book with 3 or less stars, then the book wasn´t good enough for us. Which brings us to the fact that OUR ratings are OUR personal opinions.

We understand that when we give a 3 out of 5 star rating for a book, it will not look picture perfect for the novel or author. But…has anyone ever noticed that 3 out of 5 is actually more than half? It´s a decent rating and no book blogger should be afraid to rate with honesty! What will happen if a blogger actually rates with 3 or less stars?
pssst…..come closer and I´ll tell you…..NOTHING HAPPENS! It´s your honest opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. If an author isn´t happy with a 3 or less rating? Not a bloggers problem. If a blogger has built a friendly relationship with an author and gets asked to do an honest review….then be honest! No one, not even the author, would appreciate a lie. But if a blogger is afraid they might jepordize the relationship with a ” bad ” rating….then maybe….just MAYBE  a blogger should just give up blogging. What´s the point in lying? If a blogger knows the author won´t like the truth…then maybe the author should give up too! This business is based on honesty. So why not stick with that? If a blog rates a book with 5 stars and really thinks it only deserves 3….and we as avid readers find that out…..then we feel fucked over!

There is no way in hell that a book will only receive 5 star ratings. Not possible. Because…somewhere out there….there are people who spend their precious time reading a book, in hopes it will be a fab read and get disappointed. What seemed to be great turned out not so great. Then the reader spends even MORE time and writes a review of that ” not so great” book and ends up rating it with 2- 3 stars. Should someone get mad? No. Not at all.

The Divas depend on reviews when wanting to read a new book. No matter where we read reviews….we like to read the good and bad ones. Why? Because we love to see different opinions. Maybe the reason why a reader didn´t like a book is the reason we would love it!

Now…back to the honesty thing…..

We´re honest reviewers because we believe there are people out there who appreciate that.
A bloggers main purpose is not to work for an author and make sure that person is 100% happy, bloggers mainly work for readers and help promote an authors work! It´s a hard job to do, but we think it pays off when we invest time and love and give our honest opinion.

So, why in God´s name isn´t it allowed on some blog tours to give an honest review?

Are we taking this blogging business to serious? Maybe. But everyone should never forget that an author wants to make money and they probably will at some point. But a blogger usually doesn´t get paid. So we think it´s only fair we get to be honest. If you do something…then do it right and not only half. That´s stupid.

When someone can answer that one for us….let us know. We´re dying to know your thoughts on the subject!

Much love,
the Divas xx

Knight & Play ( book # 1) – Kitty French

knight and play

*I purchased this book for my own enjoyment*

My first thought after I ended Knight & Play ( book # 1) by Kitty French, was: “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”. In all honesty, how could this book be so short and why did it have to end with a deadly cliffhanger?!

Of course, I´m not blind…I saw how big the book was before I started to read. I knew this book wouldn´t take me 5 nights to read. So, why was I surprised when I finished reading? Because I was far to excited! I wanted more from these characters! More from the authors writing style.

I loved this book! The story was something new ( well….at least it was new for me…) and just perfect!

The plot was great! The fact that the author chose to let this story take place in good old England and NORWAY (!!) was fantastic! Hardly anyone knows about Norway and the idea to make it just as romantic, majestic, and truthfully beautiful ( it is really beautiful up there..just say´n..) made my day.

Sophie is a young, beautiful woman with everything a woman can ask for at her age. But everything doesn´t include happiness. She hates working for her sleezeball boss, and she sees her , once happy marriage, chrushing to pieces before her eyes. While Sophie´s husband goes on a long ” important” business trip ( and screws around ) she starts applying for jobs. And what do ya know……Sophie Black gets a job as Mr. Lucien Knight´s PA!! And she´s in for a huge surprise! The sexy looking Lucien turns her emotional household upside down and makes her doubt her whole life!

CEO of Knight Inc. Lucien has the looks, the money and and sexy ass attitude to take over anything and anyone he pleases.( on a side note: that guy rules the damn sex industry!!!! * wipe sweat off forehead!* And when damsel in distress walks into his office to apply for the PA job, he´s taken away by her shyness, boldness and desperation and determination. Lucien knows Sophie has what it takes to be his PA, but he also sees a mission in the young woman and wants two things.
Justice and to make Sophie find her true self! But for what does a man want justice for when he has nothing to do with Sophie and her life?…This is the part where I tell you to buy the book!!!

Sophie kind of knows her husband is cheating on her, so she decides to go with the flow and have a little fun herself. She has fun, she has AMAZING sex, and she notices some massive changes in her life.

I´m telling you guys…this book is it! The story was catchy, captivating, spicy, heavenly and sexy as hell! The sexual ride Sophie goes through is one hell of a ride, if you ask me! That woman gets introduced to the sex world by the hands of Lucien..and boy does he make even the dirtiest thought sensual in a way you couldn´t imagine!
Even if this book was way to short….there was enough sex in it to make anyone horny and happy!

I got to see a semi-prude Sophie learn the ways of sexual fulfillment and I also got to meet one of the best book boyfriends ever!! Lucien Knight! ( Jeez, what a sexy name!)
But what happens when the dream ends and everyone has to return to their normal lives? How does that work?

That´s for me to know and for you to find out.lol…..All i can say is that the end will surprise you and will piss you off! I was so mad. ( in a good way mad…) The cliffhanger the author left me with was bad! How could she do that? I hate cliffhangers! This book was one of the worst ones. You know the kind that really makes you want to know how the story continues? That kind of cliffhanger! I was desperate. I still am!!!!!! ( Yes, I´m shouting out of pure frustration..lol)

Knight & Play is a beautiful lovestory with a sexy side effect that will make you fall in love from the beginning until the very end!

Would I recommend this book?
– TOTALLY!! To absolutely ANYONE who loves fab written stories with good sex!

Would I re-read this book?
-you can bet your arse I would! lol

And that is why the Divas are giving Knight & Play by Kitty French 5 out of 5 champagne glasses!

Seduced – Missy Johnson

seduced

Seduce by Missy Johnson was totally different from all other books the author has written. Normallly, the author has a style which she usually sticks too ( and which I also prefer), but I kind of felt that this story was misplaced. I´m not saying this book was God awful. Not at all. The story was pretty good, but not good enough to hold my attention for long. There were some scenes where my thoughts just drifted away….comparing the scene with other similar scenes from other books. That shouldn´t happen when I expect to become completely captivated by a story.

Maybe I just set my hopes up too high for ” Seduce “…The cover does look rather inviting and the title was short and said it all. So why didn´t I feel the need to do an over – nighter? Because…..I read this book within a day. Yes, Seduce is a short lovestory ( that´s totally fine..short doesn´t always mean bad).

The characters were ( and this is just my honest opinion here…..) not what they were meant to be. Let´s talk about Jack. He´s a 25 year old who works for his father and leads a rather bored life. He has everything he needs for himself. The good looks, the attitude, the money and enough women who will bend their backs just to get laid by him. Not a bad character. Yet.  I personally believe his character had so much potential. Except, that never showed. Jack seemed like a normal guy, but was supposed to be a man – whore and a total jackass towards women..I never saw that. So, no feelings came up for Jack from my side.
And Belle. Well……let´s just say that I thought her character was SUPER cool at the beginning, but unfortunately…the excitement flattened out pretty quick regarding Belle.

One thing extremely irritated me was that Jack was supposed to be english ( as in….from London ) and I didn´t buy it what – so – ever. I felt like I was reading about an american ( and yes….there is a huge  difference!)

Maybe it´s because we´re getting tired of these stories…who  knows. Or maybe it´s it´s because this book was short. It could also be the fact that I am used to a different Missy Johnson style. Hell, let´s just say it´s a combination of  the three. That still doesn´t change the fact that I didn´t feel anything I should have felt. Everything felt so forced.

It´s just sad because I KNOW the author has so many interesting…well written books out there. Seduce was not one of them.

Would I recommend this book?….Yeah. Why not. It was good. Just not mine.  I can see why others would love it….I just didn´t.
Would I re-read this book? …. Probably not.

That´s why the Divas Book Blog are giving ” Seduce ” by Missy Johnson 2 out of 5 champagne glasses.

The Masquerade: The Remedy ( Devil´s Eyes #5 ) – Jennifer Loren

the remedy

Jennifer Loren did it again! And this time….she knocked the wind out of my lungs with the fifth installment of the Devil´s Eyes series. The Masquerade: The Remedy was another fantastic read! A great completion to the series. I´m gonna go ahead and rate this book with 5 out of 5 champagne glasses and explain my thoughts later.

Let me start again with Nick Jayzon ( Oh shuush….let me swoon for a bit, okay?…thanks.) That man kicked ass….No, really. He kicked some serious ass in this book! I was shocked and surprised about what he became after his own grandfather ( Dennis Savage )  poisoned him. Nick may have been intimidating ( and sexy!! ) in the first books, but in this one..he  was a killing machine ( a sexy as hell killing machine, mind you..) One who´s only purpose was to demolish everything and anyone who wanted to stop him. And still….my love for him never faded. * sigh*…
That guy was dangerous to the core!

remedy 2

And now to the story.

Nick´s wife, Kayla, and the rest of Nick´s family and friends, were dead set on saving Nick from becoming the worst nightmare EVER! Sadly….it was to late and that meant the people who were willing to save Nick, were now trying to kill him. All except for Kayla. She was the only one who wouldn´t give up. With a little help from a few new characters, she found the strength to fight against the ultimate evil! But will she succeed? Will Kayla be able to turn Nick back into the man she loved, the father of her children?

This book kept me up all night. I neglected my household and my hubby so I could FINALLY see in which direction Nick and Kalya were heading.I kept wishing that Nick wouldn´t kill his wife throughout the whole book! Page after page…I was bitching to my husband ( poor guy…Oh well * shoulder shrug * ) about how Nick should see Kayla for who she really was..  The Masquerade: The Remedy,  was awful, devastating, gut wrenching, sad, desperate, and I felt ready to kill Savage myself!  I hated that guy so much. Everytime his character popped up I felt this awful sting in my gut and wanted nothing more than for him to just drop dead. The way Savage treated Nick, his own daughter and even his minions was pathetic. Each and every character that was newly introduced in this book ( I´m not talking about the evil ones…) saved themselves a special place in my heart! Jennifer Loren really does know how to create loveable characters. Do I have a complaint? Yeah. I have two. First…..Ryan….why him?? That made me so sad to see that scene. Heartbreaking!!!! Totally sob worthy! And second: The series is over. Done with. I have a hard time accepting that, because the author created so many chances for this series to continue..:-)

MY personal wish came true when i reached the end of the book. I felt so much pride for Kayla and Nick. What they went through was beyond anything normal. But their bond just showed me that nothing can destroy true love. Not even the devil himself.

My opinion of the author:
I came upon Jennifer Loren´s books through a recommendation and it was the best I received so far. A big THANK YOU to Lisa Ashmore ( give me more, babe! ) The author made the complete series ( The Devil´s Eyes ) exciting and captivating….always making her audience hold their breath. Her writing style is simple and fun. Her stories flow fluently and never get bored. I have no doubt this author will hit it big really soon.

The Divas Book Blog are giving The Masquerade: The Remedy ( book # 5 The Devil´s Eyes series) 5 out of 5 champagne glasses.

Rewired ( Progress series # 3 ) – Amy Queau

Rewired_Cover_for_Kindle

** The Divas Book Blog received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review**

Rewired is the third and final installment in the Progress series and I am once again speechless. This book ( No…scratch that….This series!!) was so unpredictable and unbelievable.

I found that this book wasn´t a lovestory in the classic way….but a lovestory between friends who helped each other through good and bad times. Was there a theme to this book? Yeah…there was. And it´s called loyalty / compassion.

Rewired picks up right were the second book ended. With Charlie hopping in Jesse´s car, leaving her Fiance behind to get some answers, and find the truth behind all the bullshit Jesse had put them through. Not only did Charlie give something good up, she walked right into something that made her life more complicated than ever. When Charlie leaves Sam behind to be with Jesse, her own emotional world gets turned upside down. Could she help Jesse? Was he hers to fix in the first place? Was there ever a chance for Charlie and Jesse to become a couple? Was it love they felt for each other, or was it just not wanting to be alone?

Charlie and Jesse´s journey isn´t an easy one, but you get to see the ups and downs of a life held captive by mental illness.  What was unclear in book 1 and book 2 was what made Jesse be the way he was. In Rewired….I felt that things weren´t going to end up good for Charlie. But thank God that woman was strong enough to get through everything…especially what Jesse handed to her. And that was just awful at times. I also saw a small love triangle in this book. Which was really great. But the author made a point out of sticking to the story and keeping the drama level steady. Lord knows Jesse was enough to deal with.lol.

I felt for Charlie ( allthough I often didn´t share her opinion or like her decissions regarding Jesse ). She was such a trooper and never gave up on Jesse. Jesse was more of a twisted personality that wanted to be free from his emotional crisis. Poor guy was confused, hurt, and he also had absolutely no clue how to approach anything normal. And then there was Sam. By God, the poor guy was just as determined to straighten things out as Charlie was. Sam wanted his Charlie back. But is he strong enough to understand the ” why´s ” of Charlie´s behavior?

I will say it in this review ( as I did in the reviews I did for book 1 and 2 ) that dealing with a person who suffers from mental illness isn´t a picnic. And it´s more of a life conquest if someone makes it their mission to help someone who suffers. The way the author told this story was fantastic and actually very believable. It wouldn´t surprise me if this series was based on true facts ( Thats how real everything felt )…..but I could care less if it was. It was simple….easy to read, and just one of the best books I´ve read in a long time!

What started of to be a heavy emotional, totally screwed up love affair, turned out to be the most heart-warming, beautiful relationship anyone could ever imagine.
And….may I add that I have shed so many tears at the end of this book? Yeah….you have no clue how long I cried towards the end of Rewired. * sniffle * ….but luckily….they were only happy tears.

Amy Queau is such a talented author who was brave enough to write about a touchy subject such as mental illness! And if anyone appreciates a good story with tough feelings, then you´re at the right place!

Would I recommend this book / series? YES YES YES!!
Would I re-read this book / series ? TOTALLY!!

I thank the author, Amy Queau, for giving the DIVAS BOO BLOG the opportunity to read and review this series. It was SO worth our time!

The Divas are giving Rewired 5 out of 5 champagne glasses + 6 thumbs up!!

Dazzled – Jane Harvey – Berrick

dazzled

Another FABULOUS book by one of my all time favorite authors Jane Harvey Berrick! Dazzled was such a joy to read. If you´ve read the authors former books, then you´ll probably notice that this one was  different. And it was still fantastic! The humor in Dazzled had me rolling on the floor or had me snorting alot ( so unlady like..lol, but I didn´t care)

So, Dazzled is a Young Adult book about two british friends who grew up together and basically stuck to one another throughout the complete story. In good and in bad times, right?

The good looking Miles Stephens leads a simple life. He´s a good actor with the worst self-esteem EVER and had little success in acting until he lands a roll in a movies and moves to the states. And of course, his childhood friend Clare had to tag along because both couldn´t seem to live without each other properly. There was just one tiny problem….Clare was totally in love with the TO DIE FOR good looking Miles.
NOTE: This is really not your usual lovestory. Don´t get me wrong…its a lovestory. It´s finally something different and it has so much new flair to it. I´ve been waiting since Dangerous To Know & Love for something new and NOW I found it. Even from the same author! Just shows how awesome Jane Harvey Berrick is! lol….

I laughed so hard while reading this book. But Dazzled also evoked some serious anger in me. I wanted to knock Miles on the head so many times for his poor choices. And poor Clare. I truly felt sorry for her through the whole book. Every thought she had would have been mine. I absolutely adored her. As for the other characters…..I enjoyed them very much. It´s quite hard to dislike anything an author does extremely well.

When it comes to the sex in this book, you won´t really get anything window fogging hot, because……it´s still a YA book. But I was totally happy anyways how they ended up in bed. It was right for the characters and for the complete story. I´m not going any further with the story because it´s just to good to spoil anything else. All you actually need to know is that it´s just one hell of a story and you need to read it for yourself.

Quote
“One day I’m going to buy you your own chocolate fountain – and then I’m going to dip my dick in it and see how much you really like chocolate.”
( I really enjoyed reading that one….* giggle….NO….I´m shamelessly laughing!* )

ANYWAYS…..You just simply cannot compare Dazzled to any other book by Jane Harvey Barrick. This book is maybe alot different than what we know from the author….but I´d say it´s 100% just a fab as the others are!

Would I recommend this book? YES YES YEEEESSSS!!!! Read it….you will really enjoy Dazzled. THAT I promise you.
Would I re-read Dazzled? haha….You can bet your ass I will !

The Divas are giving Dazzled by Ms.Fabulous, herself… Jane Harvey Berrick 5 out of 5 champagne glasses!

Country Roads ( #2 Whisper Horse series) – Nancy Herkness

**I received an ARC for Country Roads by author Nancy Herkness, in exchange for an honest review**

country roads

Country Roads ( book #2 Whisper Horse series) was a lovely read. I was again NOT disappointed when I read this book. The author did a fantastic job in creating a heart-warming lovestory with your ” everyday people” in it. Again, Nancy Herkness displayed her characters very realistic. Their problems, their struggles were true and authentic.
Country Roads was a just a simple good book! And one I totally enjoyed from the first page to the last. I´m still not a huge fan of horses ( Honestly….I´m really scared of them) but I thought the fact that the author built in something wondeful such as Whisper Horses was great! These horses do exist and that´s what makes this story also very believable ( ever heard of a Whisper cat? I haven´t.)

The story starts with Julia Castillo ( a famous painter ) who decides to run away from her suffocating uncle / manager , Carlos. With Julia being very well sheltered from anything that could do her any harm ( emotionally and physically) she never had a chance at what life has to offer. When Julia´s beat up car dies on the road in the middle of nowhere…..she gets saved by a wonderful, good looking stranger who also happens to be a lawyer, Paul Taggart. Paul makes sure Julia´s car gets towed to the next town and also makes sure she gets comfy until everything is settled for her to continue her run-away.

In the small town of Santuary, Sarah does not stay unnoticed like she had hoped she would. People start recognizing her art and Julia is all of the sudden the talk of the town. But not only because of her art. She developes a small relationship with Paul, but still isn´t sure how she could continue on with her life.

Should Julia just go back to her uncle and stop everything she worked hard for? Or should she start living her own life, and making her own mistakes?

Not only does Julia have issues to deal with…Paul has his own package to carry and has to make some serious choices in order to make a new path in this life. Will the new couple get a chance together? Or will Julia leave Paul for her carreer?

Lots and lots of events happen in this book and I refuse to tell you anything..:-) All I will tell you is that every character from this book was great. The people who live in Sanctuary are the best people anyone could wish to have as neighbors! Julia was a great character too. I liked that she struggled so bad, but still tried her best to live her life and be happy. Paul was the typical Knight on a white horse. I loved him and the way he was.

The Whisper Horse was just as scary and dangerous in this book as horses are for me in real life. But it still fit perfectly in the book and I´m glad I had the chance to read it.
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!!

The Devil´s Masquerade: The Poison ( The Devil´s Eyes # 4 ) – Jennifer Loren

the poison

OMG! I was totally enchanted by The Devil´s Masquerade: The Poison by the A.W.E.S.O.M.E. author Jennifer Loren. If the other 3 previous books were gut-twisting…..then this one was anxiously infuriating. I enjoyed every second of the angsty feeling I had from the first page to the last.

I didn´t know there was anything that could tear Nick and his Kayla apart….until….Dennis Savage decided to make it his mission to destroy the couple and make Nick Jayzon ( oh, by the by….who is also the devil´s grandson…) his.

The feelings I got while reading this book were outrageous. I felt my heart beating fast after every chapter and I wanted nothing more than for Nick to go all super scary bad/good guy on his grandpa´s ass. This story made me nuts ( in the best way ever! ).

Can the enemy take over and destroy a bond that is unbreakable?. In this book….It sure can! When Savage wants something….he will go to extremes to get it. And in this case…he was on his way to take control over Nick to complete the destiny that was planned for the Savage family. Nick was to take his place as the demon he was supposed to be. With his ability to eliminate anything that got in his way, Nick was born to be at the devils side. But was that what Nick wanted for himself?

Nick was aware of Savage and his plans, but wanted nothing to do with them. His love and devotion for his wife, Kayla, and his two sons was the only thing that kept Nick in the right place, and with only that….Nick was the richest man on earth. When Nick found out about Savages´ major plan to take over the unisverse, Nick was determinded to fight the evil that was seaking him out. But unfortunately without success. Savage gets his sticky little claws on Nick and leaves Kayla, the kids, and many others confused behind. How could the man who protected his biggest priority just drop everything and leave? How could he stop loving his equal within a few moments?

Haha….Thats for you guys to find out! I was so ready to attack at that moment. The frustration I felt was unbearable and I wanted to beat the crap out of the situation. No….scratch that…..I wanted to beat the whole book up!

I´m telling y´all…..the heartbreak and the agony I felt for some characters was so heavy, it felt like my own. Eli, Kayla, Ryan, Nick, and even some family members from the ” dark-side” were such a joy to read about and to see what they had to struggle with.

Can Kayla´s love save Nick from becoming the ultimate evil? Will both be able to win against the greatest evil facing this earth? I sure as hell hope so! If not….I might have a nervous breakdown!

With this book being the 4th in the series….I kind of thought there wasn´t much more an author could come up with to keep the complete story interesting enough. I´ve read enough books to see major differences between this series and others..for example: there was NO constantly repeating the dialogues, trying to fill in plot-holes, and desperately trying to capture a readers attention by focusing on just one topic ( may that be from sex to emotions or any other subject you can imagine)…Jennifer Loren balanced everything perfectly. There was enough of everything, and for a reader to want more. A very very tricky thing to manage, but in my opinion….turning a romance into a paranormal romance (with still a very realistic edge to it) AND keeping the speed of the story at an increasing pace, the author nailed it.

Now, what about the outcome from all of the twists and turns of events in this story? The author really made a point of making you WANT to read the next book. You will want to read the next book ASAP! The ending was spectacular. I loved how there was a reason given to fight….fight for Nick, for the good, and for justice. Oh, and by the way…..there was one character in this book that I loved just as much as I do Elijah and Nick…and that was Kamini. She was something odd but yet totally cool and gave the story another unique touch to it. A must have in the Devil´s Eyes world.

Since I obviously cannot get enough of the book / series / author…..it´s not a surprise at all that this book will receive a fantastic rating..:-)
Read, Read, and READ this book…..damn….read the series!!!! You´ll love it!
