Divas Thoughts

*deep breath *

I´m going to be very VERY generous about this series. I´m going to rate the series now instead of this book alone because I can´t stomache the thought from starting out with 4* then going down to 3* and then ending with 2*. Which was exactly what happened. I´d rate this book with a solid 2* because it was disappointing in so many ways.

If I compare book 1 to book 3 then there´s a major difference in the whole story. There was nothing left from the woman who hid in the dark. Hell…she was long gone with book #2 and was replaced with a woman who was anything but likable. Everything….I really mean everything happened in a blur.

After all was good again with Alex and Daimon, and all obsticals were pushed aside ( okay…they were killed. End of) they were out to kill the princess of Monaco! Again…I had such a hard time picturing the Grimaldi´s as they were discribed in this series.

To make a long rant short:

I thought there would be a hell lot more killing ( considering their abilities and all) and also alot more ruthlessness. I mean…Daimon was a killer for crying out loud. And nothing happened. Important characters were left to live their lives and the unimportant characters were killed.

Plus…the full truth about Alex was told in this book. Unimpressive.

And the end…..well, I´d rather not go there now. Let´s just say I was totally disappointed.

Now…there is one thing that won´t leave me alone. Why write a series with each book having less than 300 pages? Why not take the story and just make one book out of it? It just doesn´t make any sense to me.

The story could have fit into 1 book. Easily.

And then there´s the cover. It´s supposed to be a series… why not make the covers match?

This wasn´t the worst series I´ve read… started of fab and turned out not so fab.

Would I recommend this book?

This book? Vol. 3? No. I wouldn´t. The series? Yeah. Why not. Just because I was disappointed doesn´t mean everyone else will be.

Would I re-read this book?

Unmasked: Volume 2 ( Unmasked #2) – Cassia Leo

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00071]

Book Description

I left my former life – and my mask – behind.

Running from a past where I was born unloved. A past where I was betrayed by love.

Running from an organization with limitless power and stealth. Running for my life.

I never expected to find love on the run. Not in a tiny seaside town on an island in the middle of nowhere.

Not without my mask.

But it seems as if my sad story is being rewritten with someone else’s pen. But whose pen is it?

This question haunts me day and night. And I get my answer on a perfectly decadent evening. When I come home to find my bedroom perfumed with the scent of death.

He’s here.

Divas Thoughts

No. Cassia Leo did NOT do another masterpiece with this one. I´m not wanting to come across as rude or anything….I just can´t sum up the love I felt for the first Volume. There wasn´t anything cool about this one. This was just a story that was told. It was nothing I expected it to be. I was left wanting so much more after the first book.

Vol. 2 starts off where Vol. 1 ended. Alex ran away to an Island and started hiding. She gave herself a new identity and was ready to start a new life.

I don´t know. What started out great turned into non-interesting. Alex´s new life with all the new people…it felt like, after Alex and Daimon had their fatal stand-off, there was so much missing. What really threw me off was how Alex transformed from being dark, dangerous & mysterious to being open with her issues and having fun on the Island. And just like that….I started disliking Alex / Alyssa. What happened to the woman who hid her face?

Anyway: Alyssa starts dating her neighbor and gets involved with life. That´s until she gets this errie feeling that somethings not right. And she´s right!

( totally predictable story since Alex wasn´t so sure she really killed Daimon)

Things start to happen and Alyssa gets sloppy.

All of the sudden things pick up and get interesting again. It took a while…but the fun was back and my hope returned for this book to knock me off my socks. But who was I kidding ( I should really stop hoping so much) there was nothing that I didn´t see coming.

Not even the end tickled me. I´m not saying this book was God-awful…it was just a predictable. And somewhat far fetched. Being a hitman is a scary thing. And writing a story about it can be way cool. But to involve Monaco and the Grimaldi´s is way to far fetched. I live in Europe and I see alot of the actual Grimaldis on the news, etc. so I have a hard time picturing Alex being the princess of Monaco. Or being the daughter of the princess of Monaco. Either way….I couldn´t visualize that.

Let´s not forget about the 200 pages. I flew through that story in a night.+

Would I recommend this book?

Would I re-read this book?

Probably not.

Bright Side – Kim Holden

bright side

Book Description

Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

Divas Thoughts

If it weren´t for the sob worthy ending then the story would receive a lesser rating.

From the very beginning I was trying harder than hard to get into the story but my surroundings caught my attention more than this book. I bought this book because I adored the simple ( blinding orange) cover and thought, after reading the book description, I´d be getting something dramatic. Like….WOW dramatic. In a „knock me over“ fashion.

What did I get to read instead? A story that dragged on and on and then became utterly sad.

The first 60 somthing percent were ( excuse me for being so blunt ) boring. It took me a few times to really get into the story because there was nothing that grabbed me. The way it all started, the characters, the non existant build-up….all that made me wonder why I was putting myself through it all. I´m not saying the book was the worst I´ve read. It wasn´t. But it definitely wasn´t the best either. The last part of the book was actually picture perfect! 100% purely emotional. The end had me in an ugly crying fit for a few hours. How damn sad!

Bright Side is basically about a young woman who has been through the worst, but still finds a way to be optimistic. That´s why the heroine, Kate, is called Bright Side by her friend, Gus ( she also goes by Katherine). Anyways….life seems halfways fine ( your usual programm) until a reader hits the last part of the book and then BAM! Automatically, the crying begins. And I just couldn´t stop!

Now….I´m not sure if the highly emotional ending makes up for the rest of the book or not. And that´s what makes this one so hard to rate. If I were to rate the first 60% then I´d say it deserves a 2. But since I really love the cover and I cried so much I´m gonna go ahead and give it a 3 ( I don´t cry easy….so take my word for it…´s unbelievably sad)

Would I recommend this book?

No. I wouldn´t.

Would I re-read this book?

Nope. Not my cup of tea.

Leo ( A Sign Of Love ) – Mia Sheridan

Book Descripton

Evie and Leo met in foster care as children and formed a bond of friendship. As they grew, their bond turned to love, and they vowed to make a life together when they turned 18 and were no longer a part of the system.

When Leo unexpectedly gets adopted as a teen and he moves to another city, he promises Evie that he will contact her as soon as he gets there and come back for her in a few short years. She never hears from him again.

Now eight years later, in spite of the odds, Evie has made a life for herself. She has a job. She has friends. She’s content. Then a man shows up out of the blue, claiming that her long lost love, Leo, sent him to check up on her. The attraction between them is undeniable. But, should she trust this sexy stranger? Or is he keeping a secret about what his connection to Leo is really all about and why Leo disappeared all those years ago?

Divas Thoughts

Maybe I´m analyzing this book too much. But maybe not. But let me tell you that this story didn´t do it for me. After reading so many promising reviews I thought I´d hit the jackpot with Leo. Uuhm….the story wasn´t awful. It was predictable and at times cute. But where were those emotions I crave while reading a book? Puff! Vanished into thin air before I was able to feel them…that´s where they were.

I mean…it was kinda cute and sad to read about 2 orphans and their promise to stay with each other ( or better find each other again and live happily ever after). The story was, up until the main characters were torn apart, believable. After that…I just wasn´t convinced anymore. Call me a partypooper….but I just can´t seem to get my head around 22-23 year olds who´ve gone through more crap than I have with nearly 10 more years of experience on my back. It´s not realistic for me. As a romance reader I tend to watch out for ANYTHING that will tear at my heartstrings. Not here. Not with Leo. And the sex? Well, there was enough sex for 2 books in this one. I didn´t find it it any way sexy, sensual or even close to great. Besides…..oh, forget it. It´s not worth mentioning.

Let´s not forget the speed of Jake and Evie´s relationship. Evie found out Leo died in a car accident through Jake…then she cried a bit and it didn´t take her long to hop on the Jake train. I mean….COME ON! She waited for, what….8 years(??!!) for Leo and then Jake strolls along and then BAM! MY first thought was: „ Damn girl, are you on some time-limit? It´s okay to start having kids when you´re 30.“. And then the end…..I actually saw it coming.

BUT….despite my dislikes…I´m still giving this book a fairly good rating. Like I mentioned before….it wasn´t awful…I just expected a whole lot more of the important matters ( such as emotions, relatable characters, etc) and a whole lot less drama themes ( and there were plenty of them )

There was indeed one major plus point regarding this story. It was a stand-alone. I´m getting more and more fond of those lately.

Would I recommend this book?

Not sure. For hardcore romance fanatics, no. For anyone who likes an OK read for inbetween, sure.

Would I re-read this book?

Probably not.

Ugly Love – Colleen Hoover

ugly love_cover_FINAL

Book Description

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Divas Thoughts

There were three reasons why I wanted to read this book SOOO badly.

  1. The cover ( the cover alone should receive a 5 out of 5 rating!)
  2. the book description ( caught my attention )
  3. well, D´uh. It´s a Colleen Hoover novel. ( oh, do I love Colleen Hoover´s writing )

After reading her little novella, Finding Cinderella ( which was cute and all), I was more than happy to dive into something new from this author. Something awesome that would make me cry in a way only Colleen Hoover could make me.

I was ready. God, I couldn´t wait to get my hands on this one. I felt like I was standing in the cold, infront of some electronic store for hours, eager to be the first to get my hands on the newest Playstation. Well, I got the book. I read the book. Now, after reading Ugly Love I feel kind of unsatisfied.

After reading super, emotionally powerful books by the author before I thought there wasn´t a story she couldn´t write about.

Maybe I was wrong.

Ugly Love didn´t do anything for me. I tried. I really did. I can´t decide if it was the writing, the story in general, or the characters that ruined it for me….but I felt nothing. Tate and Miles ( main characters ) were charmless figures for me. I disliked both. Tate was this slouchy heroine who was weak. Throughout the story her behavior didn´t improve. Normally, a weak character grows slowly, or gains strength through small acts. Not this one. But what was worse for me was Miles took advantage of Tate.

And the drama in this book didn´t touch me either. Miles had a past. Okay. But I´m at a point where I´m thinking: „ Don´t we all have an ugly past?“ . There´s only so much ugly drama you can take in while reading a novel. I was far from impressed.

I´m not saying I hated this book. I didn´t. It just wasn´t what I was used too by this author. The story might be for others really good….just not so much for me. I´ll still rate this book with a fairly good rating because I adore the cover and the author. If it weren´t for those 2 facts then I´d definitely be giving this one less. And whats also great is that this book is a stand-alone. In my opinion…I´m glad that authors are going back to writing just a solid 1 book story. They´re so rare these days.

Would I recommend this book?

I´d recommend Ugly Love to any COHO fans. It wasn´t my cup of tea, but yeah. Why not.

Would I re-read this book?

Probably not.

Play ( Stage Dive #2) – Kylie Scott incl. Audiobook Excerpt link

playBook Description

Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller Lick.Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl. Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

Divas Thoughts

I liked this book. Nothing more nothing less. After reading Lick ( book #1) I was totally excited to read Mal´s story. Well, I did read it and it was okay. I expected a whole lot more from Mal´s story, but okay……I can´t have everything, right? He was, in fact, my favorite character in the first installment and for some reason I felt that the author didn´t have a clue as to how his character should be. Mal, the hero, was alot of things through out the whole story. He was also very extreme. Personally…..if he were my boyfriend….I would have given him a bottle of sleeping pills to knock him out. * shy shrugging* He was sweet ( overload!!), he was passionate ( overload !! ), and he was funny as hell ( beyond overload!! ) I couldn´t help but laugh at everything he said or how he embarrassed Anne. Still….I thought he had serious mood swings that were far from normal. No matter how good looking, rich or famous the guy is….if I sense he has some screws loose then that´s it for me.

Anne was okay. I enjoyed her character much more than I did Mal´s. She was as normal as any girl / young woman could be. Her only issue was that people used her. A totally relatable trait. Due to her life situation she never noticed how people used her until Mal, the drummer from everyone´s favorite band „ Stage Dive“ pointed it out to her. From there on Anne learned to grow a backbone ( that too went easy…no struggles or such )

It was obvious that this story was supposed to be fast paced. I mean…..with Mal being so fast with his actions I thought he´d ask Anne to have his babies at 30%. He was intense when it came to Anne and she was just head over heels in love with him, even if she thought he had a problem with his extremes as well. Her money issues though, weren´t as painful as I thought they would be. She needed money….he was rich…problem solved. That wasn´t a stressed out theme in this book. Nothing was.

I really REALLY wanted to give this book a higher rating but the story wasn´t strong enough. There were a few major issues mentioned in this book but they too, were fast paced. It felt like I was watching the Grand Canyon scene from the movie National Lampoon´s Vacation. Force the family out of the car to look at the Grand Canyon for 2 seconds then get back in the car ( I love that movie! ). That´s how Mal and Anne´s story felt for me.

The sex was good. I can´t complain there. I laughed so loud when Mal spoke to Anne´s body parts. But other than that…it was good.

I was waiting and waiting for something earth shattering to happen. Nothing, I was left unsatified. When it came to revealing their secrets they somehow did that effortlessly.

The end confused me. I won´t get any deeper with describing my feelings there. It´s useless because I am just confused as to why the author left out something significant for the story. That significant part would have made me rate this book a little higher.

I can´t really complain….Mal and Anne´s story was okay. But totally nutty and fast.

One thibg I truly loved about this whole book was the writing style. Fabulous and catchy.

Ruining You ( Ruining #2) – Nicole Reed

ruining you

Book Description

For a girl who dared to tempt death, living is the only promise that matters now.

Jay’s life almost came to a forced end when her darkest secrets were revealed and the one who she chose to give her future to was ripped away. Now, everything she kept hidden is the topic of everyone’s conversation, and not all are sympathetic. Someone wants her horrific past to dictate her future, and another is determined to help her choose a different path.

In conclusion to Ruining Me, Kane and Rhye know that Jay is worth the fight, but waiting for her to find herself may ruin them all.

Divas Thoughts

Ruining You is the second installment in the Ruining series. After book #1 ( Ruining Me ), I was a total mess. Now, after book #2 ( Ruining You ) I´m an even bigger mess, but I feel better. Just when I thought the sobbing was over (for me) I was sent through more tears. No bueno.

These two books / this author is the reason I keep reading. Even though this story was more heart shattering and made me ball my eyes out I still believe the story worth totally worth it.

It´s really hard not to talk about this story without giving anything away, but I strongly feel the need to force this emotional read ( book #1 and #2!!!) onto everyone. I might never EVER read these books again ( I just can´t handle a second round of an emotional meltdown ), but I want the whole world to read this story at least once so everyone can go through what I did.

There was nothing that made me dislike anything in this book. The story was ( as mentioned before ) devastating, painful, and totally heartbreaking. But I also felt the love, compassion and and devotion.

How does life get better? Where do you start and when does the struggle end? Can someone, who has gone through the worst, ever find happiness again?

The characters, despite their hard paths, were intelligent! I loved the dialogue so much. These fictional people were pretty young and yet the author gave them the right portion of brains. Loved it! But my favorite of all characters was Eli. Bless him. I want somone like that in my life. He helped Jay in the best way ever, showing her life is worth living. And Kane and Rhye. Dear God… was a beautiful mess. Lots and lots of heavy, well written drama which I couldn´t get enough of.

The end didn´t make my sobbing stop. My sadness was just replaced by happy tears and relief for Jay. I´m glad the author chose to give these characters a HEA. I mean….after so much darkness there has to be a light somewhere at the end of the tunnel, right? But the big question is…..who did Jay pick? Kane or Rhye? Who was the one who could give her everything she needed, including more? All I can say about the end and Jay´s decission is that I am 100% satisfied.

If you want to read this book…go ahead. I´m not stopping anyone. Just be prepared to have a box of tissues. You will constantly feel the up´s and down´s and you will be exhausted from all the smiling, and ugly crying.

Would I recommend this book?

Would I re-read this book?

Nope. * laughing* It´s enough that I have the books on my shelf. Don´t need to torture myself again. 🙂

Unravel by Calia Read Review

Calia Read breaks the mold in this explosive novel that grabs hold and doesn’t let go until the shocking truth is revealed.

One month ago I was admitted to a psych ward. Yesterday, Lachlan told me I’m losing my mind. But I know what I saw. Will you believe me?

Behind the walls of a mental hospital, Naomi Carradine feels her world breaking to pieces. She’s starting to believe all the voices questioning her sanity. Only visitors from the outside world keep her tethered to reality. But deep in her thoughts, Naomi is haunted by memories of a golden summer that twisted into a waking nightmare of obsessive love and fractured truths.

Just home from college, Naomi moves in with her best friend, Lana, the daughter of a Virginia senator. At a lavish party thrown by Lana’s father, Naomi meets a sexy stockbroker named Max and finds herself unable to resist his charms. One fiery kiss and she’s going back for more, beginning a terrifying descent. After Naomi witnesses the unspeakable, she has only one hope of escape: unraveling the devastating secrets of her past.

Unravel is intended for mature audiences.

This is probably one of the hardest reviews I have ever had to do simply because there’s nothing I can write that won’t, even in the slightest, give the ending away!

So, I suppose I will just tell you that Calia Read really did a fantastic job at writing this book although I definitely questioned it as I was reading.  At times, I was very confused and thinking she either missed some things in the editing process or I’m just not getting it.  Okay, to be perfectly honest I just thought it was her fault…hehe 🙂 but I was nicely surprised when I realized there was a method to her madness so to speak!

The story did captivated me enough to not have been able to put it down essentially making me completely useless to my family all day but hey, it’s good for them to fend for themselves occasionally, right?! I loved how this story plays out! Unravel by Calia Read gets 4 out of 5 champagne glasses from us! Make sure to put this one on your TBR list, in fact go click on the link below and get it now!

Ruining Me ( Ruining #1) – Nicole Reed

ruining me

Book Description

Eighteen year old Jay Stevenson is living a horrible nightmare.

Two years ago, she had the world in the palm of her hand, but in one moment, it was ruined. Secrets, lies, and the worst imaginable betrayal haunt her new reality. Burying her problems under a cold façade seems to be the only way to cope until it all catches up with her. Soon, she loses control of the lonely world she built around her, and the past, present, and future collide.

Three guys are there when it all comes crashing down: JT, the perfect boyfriend she never wanted to give up; Rhye, the local bad boy “rock star” who made her forget the past; and Kane, the funny and sweet tattooed bartender who wants her future.

Secrets must be kept. Choices must be made. Is it possible to move forward while still chained to the wicked vices of the past?

Divas Thoughts

Nicole Reed is a rockstar in the book world! I usually don´t cry when reading a book because there´s always a little voice inside my head that reminds me that what I´m reading isn´t true. That small voice kind of disappeared while reading Ruining Me. I cried so much. Even my sleeves from my shirt had wet spots with black smears from my mascara. Sheesh. I can safely say I loved this book but I never want to read it again. Lol. Seriously, I don´t do books that beat me up so badly. It was gut wrenching, and soul wrecking. Why did I put myself through such a book? Well, it was recommended to me. I was asked if I wanted a darker kind of read, or something funny. I wanted the darker one, BUT NO ONE TOLD ME I`D CRY!!

Ruining Me ruined me. How am I supposed to read another book now? Everything was fine until I started to read. Someone shoot me now and put me out of my misery!

I felt it all. I felt the pain Jay went through ( even if I never walked down the same road ) and I was silently hoping for her to break free from her locked up state and return to what she was before she went through hell. I was broken-hearted that she struggled ( boy, did that girl struggle! ) to make it all go away. In short: That girl was pretty screwed.

And then…to top it all off… her broken, dark world became a little colorful when 3 guys entered the picture. What these guys did for Jay was unbelievable. I loved how each of them wanted to help her and all would have done anything if they could´ve. Each of them couldn´t have been more different from one another, yet they somehow all mached perfectly to Jay.

This book wasn´t completely to cry for. There were a few moments when I ( not so lady-like ) snorted while laughing. The Dialogue was great and some lines really cracked me up. But the rest….OMG….NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! * sob * No no no no. So awfully devastating * more sobbing *

The end ruined me even more and I thank my lucky stars that there´s another book to this story. How couldn´t there be?

This is the kind of story that gets your hopes up and then crushes you again and again and again. Once you believe you, and the characters, are going to be OK, another event knocks everyone over even harder than the last one did.

Even though I will probably never read this book again I still highly recommend it to anyone who craves a fabulous emotional read. If you appreciate crying and hugging a box of kleenex then this book is definitely for you! If you´re a person who doesn´t like deep, heavy, dark emotional stories…..and if you still chose to read this book….don´t say no one has warned you. You will ball your eyes out. I will forever keep this book in my heart and mind and hope this author never gives up writing.
