Divas’ Review

Ever since we were destroyed by the worst book hang-overs EVER with Aleatha’s Consequences series, we have been waiting (very impatiently) for her next work of art!  Yes, I say “work of art” because she truly is an artist with how she puts her words together to create such intriguing and unique stories and Insidious definitely falls into that same category.  Aleatha has delivered, yet again, a fascinating, sexually explosive story that definitely takes a dive into the “Dark Side”  which kept me guessing and needing to read more. Of course, just like the other ones, I can’t say too much without giving something away so I will just have to say, “Get this book!!!” Okay, well I may have to say a little more than that but I promise no spoilers. 🙂  Seriously though, I don’t know how she does it but Aleatha has an amazing ability to create characters that you don’t know if you’re going to love or hate throughout the book and Insidious was no different in that aspect.  The only problem I have is that it is over…no second, third, fourth, fifth…to look forward to because I certainly have a love/hate relationship with series’ with heart-stopping cliffhangers but I’ll tell you this much, the end threw me off enough to where I needed to re-read it a few times and I suppose that will have to do and I’ll just have to wait for her next one to get more Aleatha!

Meet Aleatha Romig

Aleatha Romig is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who lives in Indiana. She grew up in Mishawaka, graduated from Indiana University, and is currently living south of Indianapolis. Review

This is truly a bittersweet moment for the Divas (as I’m sure it is for many who have followed the insane journey of our beloved Tony and Claire) to reach the perfectly ended finish line to the best chess/poker game ever played from the man we wanted to despise but for some ungodly reason couldn’t to the woman who immediately captured our hearts but wanted to strangle some sense into her, Tony and Claire will forever be on the top of our list of favorite couples.

Aleatha, once again, blew us away with her final installment of the Consequences series! Like I’ve said before, this story stood out among the hundreds of books we read with its originality, unsuspecting twists, amazing writing, and the ability to make us feel so many emotions all at once we didn’t know what to do with ourselves!  This book in particular gave us a beautiful insight into not just Tony but ALL the men we have grown to love and adore! Aleatha Romig, you couldn’t have finished this series off any better than you did and we sincerely thank You for giving us this treasure of a story!  We can’t wait for what comes next from you! Just like every other book in this series, we give Behind His Eyes Convicted: The Missing Years (or whatever you will be calling it:-)) an outstanding 5 champagne glasses!!

make this short and painless:

I
thought this book was cool, totally hot, and absolutely worth having
in my sacret golden bookshelf! The cover alone should receive the
highest rating ( gotta love simplictity 🙂 )

The
million Dollar question is:

What
would you do if you see your ex after 10 years again?

Blissful
Surrender ( #3 Bliss Series ) started out catchy and stayed that way
until the bitter end. The author had the ability to make me ( as a
reader ) sit in an upright position for hours and stay that way until
the story was over. Her choice for using a Dom in a non-classical way
made this story refreshing as ever and I totally enjoyed reading
about a Hero who loved to dominate and act like a normal human being
at the same time ( I so SOOOO loved Sean…* sigh* ) The author more
or less shows a reader that any rules are allowed as to how dominant
a Dom can be. The fact that Sean loved to dominate in the bedroom but
still let Samantha /Sam ( Heroine ) stay herself and let her be foul
mouthed and all, made him a 100% loveable Dom. In my opinion….every
woman needs a Sean. He was respectful, he had a way with words, and
he definitely knew which buttons to push when it came to women…when
it came to Sam.

Sam´s
character was just as loveable. She was a strong headed, independent
women who made a huge mistake in her younger years. That mistake
robbed her some fantastic years with the man she loved. During the 10
year period of loneliness ( okay….she had a bed-friend ), she never
found what she once had…..a relationship like the one she used to
have with Sean. Thank God that woman never complained or felt sorry
for herself. I reall appreciated that she was straight forward and
uncomplicated.

Ooooh,
this story is good! I loved that there dual POV´s and I loved
how easy this book was to read. The writing was also flawless which
made this book even more enjoyable.

The
only thing I can complain about is Sean´s brother. I wish the
author had mentioned him a bit more since his character had so much
to offer. He is mentioned in the book and he definitely plays a solid
role in the story, but I felt that he was cut short.

Besides
that…..the story was great, the sex was beyond acceptable (
naah….it was smokin´ HOT, damn it! Like….stick your head in
the fridge for a few seconds HOT) ….uuugh..where was I? OH
YES! And all the sub characters were fab. 🙂

Even
though this book belongs to a series ( which I haven´t read,
yet ) Blissful Surrender can easily be read as a stand-alone.

I
can´t wait to read the other books now!

Our Love of the Tortured Hero

Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the tortured hero. I fell deeply in love with poignant stories such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, and Wuthering Heights. I remember watching The Phantom of the Opera stage playat age seven with a mixture of horror, sympathy, and shared pain. Later, in my teens, I read Gaston Leroux’s Gothic novel in a single night and found myself falling in love all over again. Indeed—something about the vulnerability, desperation, and raw yearnings of these aforementioned heroes (or rather, these antiheros) opened my eyes and forever touched my soul. They were much more than mere characters or elaborate passages in a book; through their fatal flaws they had transformed into living, breathing human beings … people who I ached to reach out and heal. I identified with Erik’s loneliness and his need for companionship … I understood Jean Valjean’s hunger for redemption, for a second chance … I, too, saw Fantine’s dream shatter into a million pieces … and I wept on behalf of Heathcliff’s wretched beginnings and his unrequited love for Cathy. These individuals and their tragic plights continue to fuel my inspiration and have made a lasting impact on my own stories. This led me to ask myself the following question: what is about the tortured hero that leaves a lasting imprint on our minds and hearts? In spite of their cruelty, damning choices, and cynicism, why do we continually find ourselves rooting for these damaged men and women? What draws us in—mind, body, and soul? There is something genuinely captivating about a damaged, tortured hero. He is much more than a Gothic personality found in the pages of literary classics. Alas, the tortured hero is still alive and well. “Antiheros” are currently on the rise—something which is evidenced by the abundance of dark romance novels and edgy television series (a warm nod to my two personal favorites, the phenomenal Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones). As a way to answer my own inquiry, here are some possible reasons as to why our love for the Eriks, Heathcliffs, and Walter Whites of the world remains so strong and sure:

1) Our ability to identify with the tortured hero’s flaws and imperfections. In the realm of storytelling, relating to a character is everything. By definition, tortured heroes contain at least one fatal flaw. These imperfections dictate their personalities, fears, and desires. These defects can appear in a variety of forms: physical scars, internal scars, severe emotional damage, and heavy burdens/baggage. By exploring the things that make the tortured hero tormented, we gain an understanding of how they evolved into their current personalities. This is a very intimate venture, as the reader is granted access into the most private, vulnerable, and painful crevices of their being. And when we gain a true understanding of a character, we are much more likely to connect with their plight. We know the agony they’ve endured, we recognize the reasons why they might appear cruel, callous, or cynical—and we ache to see them overcome these shortcomings and become whole. Furthermore, tragic flaws oftentimes embody universal fears. For example, nearly every person fears being alone. Because of his disfigurement, The Phantom has been cast out of society and sentenced to a life of darkness and solitude. As readers, we personally relate to his isolation and need for companionship. In short, we recognize the tortured hero’s shortcomings and either subconsciously or consciously utilize them as a personal, internal mirror.

2) Redemption and the beauty of hope. Redemption is a beautiful, powerful force. It reminds us that change is possible and nurtures the prospect of hope. We all yearn to better ourselves, to grow as individuals, to overcome seemingly impossible odds … and the tortured hero’s journey symbolizes this concept.

3) Stories that feature a tortured hero often lend themselves to a more dynamic read. Stories that focus on the trials and tribulations of a tortured hero/heroine often bear higher emotional stakes. More pages are dedicated to characterization. These stories tend to delve further into backstories, have greater obstacles, and contain profound character arcs. Consequently, the subject matter, themes, and overall tone are typically deeper and more complex than that of a “casual read.” This is simply a phenomenon that comes with exploring the darker territories of the human psyche.

4) For the love of the “bad boy.” Tortured heroes commonly boast “bad boy” behaviors. They are ruthless, gruff, and naughty rule breakers. Stories (especially romance novels) are a form of fantasy escapism—and who wouldn’t want to escape into the arms of a man who’s ready to rock you world?

5) Genuine love. Romances that feature a tortured hero truly probe the boundaries of compassion, sensitivity, and unconditional love. Because of the hero’s (or heroine’s) imperfections, the love interest must learn to love and accept him in spite of discovering these things. And when you truly know and love someone … well, there’s the magic of romance.

6) The tortured hero is just plain sexy. Low, sardonic whispers. Impenetrable darkness and dangerous secrets. Penetrating eyes. Mesmerizing stares. Mystery, danger, and intrigue = sexy in one deliciously masculine package. The Frost of Springtime embodies my passion for the tortured hero. ” I knew the day was not going to end well as soon as I saw the gun. It bulged in the outside pocket of his backpack, hidden unless someone looked for it. Of course, I had to be the one looking for it.

Chad kept his head down in class, his pen scratching dark lines of some doodle across his paper. I couldn’t drag my gaze away from him.

He’d brought a gun. Damn it. He was going to follow through with his plan.

I was focusing so hard on the knot of guilt in my stomach and the tangle of plans to stop Chad that Bea had to kick my chair to alert me class had started. Of course, Bea had to be in this class with the homicidal kid who was my responsibility.

I did a quick head count. It was Friday, half-day schedule, last period, with spring break starting next week. Most everyone had ditched already, and only thirteen people remained, including our teacher.

Glancing at the numerous pictures from his years of surveillance, Tony wondered if he and Claire had come full circle. Would it be like this again? Then he shook his head. He didn’t want her back, did he? Hell, the lack of sleep was making him sentimental. He stopped his search. The damn contract was no longer valid; it never had been—legally. Pushing the box back into its hideaway, he contemplated throwing it all away. Having her back wasn’t his goal; learning her location was. She had no right to disappear.e that easy again. Review 

We can’t get enough of this series!!! The companion books to Aleatha Romig’s Consequence series are by far the best “extras” we’ve ever had the pleasure of reading and Behind His Eyes Truth might be our favorite so far!  Okay, okay…we say that with every one of her books but this one, we think, might take the cake!  

We all know Tony is a complex man with many sides to him but BHE Truth perfectly highlights the side we all hoped he had and would sporadically show eventually as we were continuously tortured by Tony’s erratic and ruthless behavior and actions throughout  each and every one of the books.  Oh, don’t get us wrong…he is still and will always be deliciously sick and twisted but Aleatha did a phenomenal  job at bringing out his sensitive, protective, and loving side in BHE Truth.  

As always, Aleatha Romig’s writing is smooth and as close to perfection as we could ever ask.  The pages flow beautifully together, creating a story you will not want to put down until you’ve finished.  We must admit, even after we were done, we still had a hard time putting it down…

Just like every other book in this series, Behind His Eyes Truth receives an overwhelming 5 out of 5 champagne glasses from the Divas!  We are a little destroyed at the idea that there is only one more book to come before there will be no more written on one of our most favorite book boyfriends, Anthony Rawlings but we are sure that an author of Aleatha Romig’s caliber will have something else for us to sink our teeth and hearts into soon (or at least we hope!)

Review

To put it simply, I really enjoyed Consequences of Deception by Ella Fox!  The story begins with a sexy interaction between two sexy characters, Sloane and Killian.  Due to Sloane’s young age, nothing can happen between them and as fate decides, nothing will ever happen when tragedy strikes and both are unknowingly thrown into a web of deceit that turns the both of them against each other.  Years later he buys her…yes I said that, Killian buys Sloane but the reasons are far from surfacing and if others had it their way, the truth would never come out.

 This book is full of sexy, hot scenes and delicious twists.  I thoroughly enjoyed how the story unraveled as I continued to fall in love with these two characters.  Mechanically, it was written well and flowed nicely through out the entire story.  You will definitely want to buy this book to add to your collection!  We give it 4 out of 5 champagne glasses! Cheers!
