Divas Thoughts

*deep breath *

I´m going to be very VERY generous about this series. I´m going to rate the series now instead of this book alone because I can´t stomache the thought from starting out with 4* then going down to 3* and then ending with 2*. Which was exactly what happened. I´d rate this book with a solid 2* because it was disappointing in so many ways.

If I compare book 1 to book 3 then there´s a major difference in the whole story. There was nothing left from the woman who hid in the dark. Hell…she was long gone with book #2 and was replaced with a woman who was anything but likable. Everything….I really mean everything happened in a blur.

After all was good again with Alex and Daimon, and all obsticals were pushed aside ( okay…they were killed. End of) they were out to kill the princess of Monaco! Again…I had such a hard time picturing the Grimaldi´s as they were discribed in this series.

To make a long rant short:

I thought there would be a hell lot more killing ( considering their abilities and all) and also alot more ruthlessness. I mean…Daimon was a killer for crying out loud. And nothing happened. Important characters were left to live their lives and the unimportant characters were killed.

Plus…the full truth about Alex was told in this book. Unimpressive.

And the end…..well, I´d rather not go there now. Let´s just say I was totally disappointed.

Now…there is one thing that won´t leave me alone. Why write a series with each book having less than 300 pages? Why not take the story and just make one book out of it? It just doesn´t make any sense to me.

The story could have fit into 1 book. Easily.

And then there´s the cover. It´s supposed to be a series…..so why not make the covers match?

This wasn´t the worst series I´ve read…..it started of fab and turned out not so fab.

Would I recommend this book?

This book? Vol. 3? No. I wouldn´t. The series? Yeah. Why not. Just because I was disappointed doesn´t mean everyone else will be.

Would I re-read this book?

Nope.

Unmasked: Volume 2 ( Unmasked #2) – Cassia Leo

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00071]

Book Description

I left my former life – and my mask – behind.

Running from a past where I was born unloved. A past where I was betrayed by love.

Running from an organization with limitless power and stealth. Running for my life.

I never expected to find love on the run. Not in a tiny seaside town on an island in the middle of nowhere.

Not without my mask.

But it seems as if my sad story is being rewritten with someone else’s pen. But whose pen is it?

This question haunts me day and night. And I get my answer on a perfectly decadent evening. When I come home to find my bedroom perfumed with the scent of death.

He’s here.

Divas Thoughts

No. Cassia Leo did NOT do another masterpiece with this one. I´m not wanting to come across as rude or anything….I just can´t sum up the love I felt for the first Volume. There wasn´t anything cool about this one. This was just a story that was told. It was nothing I expected it to be. I was left wanting so much more after the first book.

Vol. 2 starts off where Vol. 1 ended. Alex ran away to an Island and started hiding. She gave herself a new identity and was ready to start a new life.

I don´t know. What started out great turned into non-interesting. Alex´s new life with all the new people…it felt like, after Alex and Daimon had their fatal stand-off, there was so much missing. What really threw me off was how Alex transformed from being dark, dangerous & mysterious to being open with her issues and having fun on the Island. And just like that….I started disliking Alex / Alyssa. What happened to the woman who hid her face?

Anyway: Alyssa starts dating her neighbor and gets involved with life. That´s until she gets this errie feeling that somethings not right. And she´s right!

( totally predictable story since Alex wasn´t so sure she really killed Daimon)

Things start to happen and Alyssa gets sloppy.

All of the sudden things pick up and get interesting again. It took a while…but the fun was back and my hope returned for this book to knock me off my socks. But who was I kidding ( I should really stop hoping so much) there was nothing that I didn´t see coming.

Not even the end tickled me. I´m not saying this book was God-awful…it was just a predictable. And somewhat far fetched. Being a hitman is a scary thing. And writing a story about it can be way cool. But to involve Monaco and the Grimaldi´s is way to far fetched. I live in Europe and I see alot of the actual Grimaldis on the news, etc. so I have a hard time picturing Alex being the princess of Monaco. Or being the daughter of the princess of Monaco. Either way….I couldn´t visualize that.

Let´s not forget about the 200 pages. I flew through that story in a night.+

Would I recommend this book?

Hmm….maybe.

Would I re-read this book?

Probably not.

Unmasked: Volume 1 ( Unmasked #1) – Cassia Leo

unmasked 1

Book Description

I was born into this world unwanted.

I spent the first hours of my life unloved.

I spent the first eighteen years of my life with the parents who tried to shelter me from the harsh reality of my existence.

But you can’t un-write a sad story if the ending is literally written all over your face.

So I moved out and now I hide. I have a night job that pays the bills. Every night, I put on my mask and walk to work.

Then one night, I hear and see something that will change my purpose in life… forever: a murder that will bring him to me.

He says he wants to protect me. And, through a series of events I can’t fully make sense of, I find myself believing him.

But our nightly visits are always cloaked in darkness. I don’t know his face and he will never know mine.

I was born into this world unwanted. I will leave this world unmasked.

Divas Thoughts

I thought this story was a nice change of wallpaper. It was dark, it was mysterious, and most of all…it was unique.

How spooky and cool is it to find someone attractive in the dark? How creepy is it to know nothing but still feel something for a stranger you don´t even trust? That´s confusing as hell. Lol

The book description and the cover screamed at me so I had to buy the book. I´ve been making some poor decissions lately when it comes to books, but not with this one. Unmasked was one of my best choices sofar.

Very very cool story. Sexy as hell, and it had a major bad-assness to it.

The characters were super cool. I felt as if I was watching an episode of Mr. & Mrs. Smith ( kind of…). Alex was this unwanted, unloved woman who was trained to kill. Her only issue was that she avoided daylight and hid from the world because of the problem she had. She lived in LA where crime is nearly all over the place, yet she manages to survive with ease ( due to her life long training to become a killing machine). And if that weren´t enough….she also acted a bit strange in her own apartment. Never turning the lights on, and such. The problem she had was an issue….but she always kept to herself. Until one day…a murder happened (or a few murders happened she witnessed). Who did what and why? That´s when a special detective came into the picture and rattled Alex´s world a little. She didn´t trust the detective but she still put up with him. And all that without showing her face! Or him showing his for that matter * spooky* One thing led to another and that´s where the fun began.

This was really cool because both main characters, Alex and Daimon, are equals. They´re so alike. Totally perfect for one another. Events happen and they actually fall in love with each other.

And then it happens. The moment I was waiting for. And I wasn´t surprised. But that was fine because I still loved the idea of the story. The writing was good and I fell in love with the mystery behind everything. Another great thing about this book was that I thought it wasn´t predictable at all.

The only thing I disliked was that this book was short. 178 pages. Uuhm….why? There was more than enough info that could have been stretched out some more. I would have loved to read more about Alex´s background. I would have totally enjoyed more from the pitch black apartment moments.

But I didn´t get that. It was a definitely a fast paced story with some exciting scenes.

Would I recommend this book?

Yes. I would.

Would I re-read this book?

I might.

Dair ( The Wild Side #3) – R. K. Lilley

dair

Book Description

I’d started writing everything about her down. I didn’t want to forget.
The color of her hair. The depth of her eyes. The stubborn shape of her jaw. The way her lips shaped words with such expression. The way her voice made my chest ache. The way she gave advice beyond her years.
The way she listened like she cared about every word.
The way she made me feel—Alive.
Every curve and hollow of her body was recorded, in my mind, and now my hard drive.
There was a bit of truth in every lie, and even if it had only been fed to me in the smallest increments, I wanted, needed to remember the real Iris.
Because in the end, there was one irrefutable thing that I couldn’t deny.
Hostage or hustler, sinner or saint, whatever she was or wasn’t, whether she lied to my face or taunted me with hints of the truth, all of this seemed always to defer to the more pertinent fact at hand.
She was mine.
Inconceivably.
Undeniably.
Mine.

After yet another shocking discovery, followed by a disturbing letter, Dair is almost certain Iris has left his life for good. He tries his best to move on.
Easier said than done, and when an unexpected and dangerous opportunity arises for him to find out what happened to her, he doesn’t hesitate to take it.
As usual, with Iris, the answer leaves him more lost than the question.
Every revelation is shrouded in mystery, and every disclosure leaves Dair more in the dark than ever.
And when finally, the messy truth is revealed in its entirety, will he be ready for it?

This is the final installment in Iris and Dair’s story
This book is intended for readers 18 and up.

Divas Thoughts

Here´s the thing. Reading book 1 and 2 was exciting. I loved how things were wild and that I was constantly kept in the dark. In this one….I was kind of fed up. The cat and mouse chase frustrated me endlessly. There was so much fabulous build-up in the first 2 books that I assumed something grand would happen in the third one. Something that would shock me speechless, knock me out of my socks, or even something that would make me wake my husband in the middle of the night just to have someone to talk too right away.

That didn´t happen. The whole story was about finding out what Iris was up to. All the missing pieces had to be found and when that finally happened in the last half of this book….the story wasn´t as interesting anymore. Dair ( that poor SOB ) was so hopelessly in love with the much younger Iris that he put up with everything that happened to him. One minute Iris was there, loving Dair the way he needed to be loved and appreciated, and the next minute she´s gone again with less or even no explaination at all. And when everything comes to light he still loves her. A-ha. Well, that might be interesting for other readers…..it wasn´t for me.

At the end I nearly gave up reading the book. I felt that Dair needed to set his standards a little higher. Chasing after a young blonde who constantly disappeared made him stand in the desperate corner.

There were indeed some good sides to the story. The sex, the dialogue, and the writing….they were good.

Not saying I hated this book. But I didn´t go nuts over it either.

Would I recommend this book?

Hmm….yeah. But only read about how their story ended. If this were a stand alone then I would NOT recommend this book.

Would I re-read this book?

Since this is a series, I´d say no. This wasn´t my cup of tea.

Divas Thoughts

We just love it when a story gradually gets better after every book. This third installment topped the first two books easily. The story was well paced. The characters were stubborn and heartbreaking. Blake and Erica´s story was so good that one of us even chewed on the tips of my hair! ( which is nasty….but she couldn´t help herself. Better than chewing on the kindle, right?)

Meredith Wild has a way to make her characters and readers go through hell. As most of you know, we´re not the type of women to get all anxious or jumpy over a character or a situation the characters had to deal with. With Blake and Erica….we were constantly sitting on the edge, wishing for the characters to finally get their chickens in a row. We were more than ready for those 2 figures to find their ULTIMATE HEA.

Not only did the main characters leave a fab impression on us. Nope. Every other fictional figures had an important role to play in this book and we were more than happy to see how the lives of others were connected to Blake and Erica. Absolute fabulous storytelling!

All we can say about this story is that we were 100% satisfied. Everything was perfect. It was just a totally enjoyable, sexy, steamy, swoon worthy read with a touch of excellence.

Another wonderful thing about this story is…..it´s not over yet! * squee *

Hard Limit ( #4 Hacker Series ) is due for Fall / Winter 2014.

The Wild Side ( The Wild Side #1) – R. K. Lilley

the wild side

Book Description

ARE YOU READY TO TAKE A WALK?

Alasdair Masters is in a rut.  He just hit forty, has been nearly celibate for the past year, and his life has turned into a daily sequence of lonely patterns that revolve around avoiding human contact.

His tidy life is turned on its head when a hot young blonde at the gym that’s been pseudo-stalking him decides to rock his world.  A very young blonde.  Way, way too young for him.  The problem is, he can’t seem to tell her no, and she just keeps coming back for more.

It doesn’t help that he’s ninety percent sure she’s a criminal, and still, he can’t seem to turn her down.  What is a dull introvert to do when a chaotic cyclone that oozes sexuality comes twisting into his life?

At first, he thinks she’ll give him a heart attack, but after his twenty-year marriage ended a year ago, he’s been a little lost, and when she comes crashing into his life, he realizes that he’s never felt more alive.

Is a walk on the wild side just what he needs to get his on track or a disaster in the making?  Is it possible for someone that much younger to be just what he needs, or is she a fortune hunter, as everyone keeps telling him?  Is it his hormones telling him that the mysterious younger woman is the one, or could it be more?

Divas Thoughts

Now, this book was a wonderful change of scenery. A 40 year old rich guy living a depressing life falls for a mysteriousyoung woman. The attraction they felt towards one another was there from the very beginning, but Alasdair ( also called Dair ) had a small issue with their age difference and that kept him from jumping Iris´s throat from the start.

Thankfully, Iris was 24 but Dair still wasn´t green knowing he was so much older. They somehow start a crazy, easy relationship and both live good with their time together.

I LOVED THIS STORY!

( besides the fact that it was short.*sniffle* )

That alone wouldn´t have made this story so great. What made this story unforgettable for me was the fact that even I couldn´t find out what Iris´s problem was.

Iris was a character I enjoyed alot. She had it all. Iris was beautiful with her almost white blonde hair and well built body ( she was the ultimate bomb of a woman ). But it wasn´t just that. For a 24 year old..she had a carefree way of living. Her attitude towards problems or odd situations made me love her. If she were a real person I´d want to be around her. Outgoing and upfront.

The one and only thing that drove me mad was that Iris was too good to be true! A total suspicious woman who gave nothing away. Her past, her present, even her future…..all a mystery. I wanted to know where she was going and what she was doing while away from Dair. I wanted to know about who she really was. Every damn time Dair asked something about her past or even asked about a job she ditched the subject perfectly. How frustrating and exciting for a reader!

Alasdair was also a mighty fine piece of character. He was 40 ( which is, in my opinion, a sexy as hell age) who went through a slightly hard time with his ex-wife and his loneliness. Uuhm…I would have helped him out in a heartbeat * cough cough* ( I know that was TMI….but cut me some slack! He was sexy, OKAY? Lol) His whole neat little world was turned upside down when little Iris popped into the picture. He started living even if their age difference bugged him.

I personally thought a 24 year old dating a 40 year old wasn´t a huge problem. If everything fits then why not?

The romance in this book was also a mystery ( in a good way). I knew Dair was falling hard for Iris…and that Iris was attracted to Dair, but there was something missing. The connection was there, the sex was more than present….but what about the stuff that seals the deal of a relationship? There are more installments to this series so my guess is that I might find out what Iris´s deal is ( d´uh, to myself ). There are to many questions that need answers and the suspicion is nearly unbearable.

The end is what killed me. How could a book end that way? I never found out who Iris really was? With her beieng all mysterious….and with that god-awful ending….I felt like someone dumped water over my head. Don´t get me wrong….the end ( I prefer to call it „ The Nasty Cliffhanger“) was great, I just wanted the story to never stop.

Would I recommend this book?

YES! To any R. K. Lilley fan and to anyone who loves a good mystery romance with hot sex scenes. I would definitely recommend this book.

Would I re-read this book?

Yes!

Dirty Angels ( Dirty Angels #1) – Karina Halle

dirty angels

Book Description

**warning: this book contains situations which might be triggers for some people. Please see the bottom of this description to see if this is the kind of book that you’ll love or piss you off**

For Luisa Chavez, a twenty-three year old former beauty queen, a better life has always been just out of her reach. Sure, she’s had men at her feet since she was a young teenager but she’s never had the one thing she’s craved – security. Having grown up in near poverty, her waitressing job in Cabo San Lucas can barely let her take care of herself, let alone her ailing parents. Every day is another unwanted advance, every day is a struggle to survive.

When Salvador Reyes, the depraved leader of a major Mexican cartel, takes an interest in her, Luisa is presented with an opportunity she can’t afford to pass up. She’ll become Salvador’s wife and exchange her freedom and body for a life of riches – riches she can bestow upon her deserving parents. But Luisa quickly finds out that even the finest wines and jewels can’t undo the ugliness in her marriage, nor the never-ending violence that threatens her every move.

Soon, Luisa is looking for an escape, a way out of the carefully controlled life she’s leading. She finally gets her wish in the worst way possible.

As it is, being the wife of Salvador makes her an ideal target for rival cartels and there’s one particular man who needs Luisa as part of his cartel’s expansion. One particular man whose quest for power has destroyed lives, slit throats and gotten him out of an American prison. One particular man who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.

That man is Javier Bernal. And he wants Luisa. He wants to take her, keep her, ruin her.

Unless she ruins him first.

***WARNING*** This book deals with drug cartels and as such it contains a lot of sex and violence and some violent sex. It can get pretty ugly, pretty dark and pretty crazy. There is drug use, abuse, a bit of torture and dubious consent. The hero is not a hero and the villains…well, they’re even worse. If this sort of thing bothers you, PLEASE DO NOT READ IT. This ain’t no cupcake farting unicorn kind of book. If you are even a bit squeamish about violence, brutality and rape, this is your warning to stay away from a book that you certainly will not like (and why read books that you know you won’t like?)***

***While this is a spin-off of The Artists Trilogy, prior knowledge of the books is not needed. DIRTY ANGELS is the first in a trilogy, however each book can standalone and follows or introduces different characters***

Divas Thoughts

Just the book I was waiting for! Dirty Angels by Karina Halle is 100% exciting. I had such a fabulous time reading about the mexican cartel and their torturous ways, and I even loved the really fantastic twisted lovestory.

Yes, there were alot of things that would definitely disturb many readers ( such as the brutal torture, all the blood, language, etc…) but let´s be honest here for a moment: You cannot take a mexican drug lord serious if he wears a a mint colored suit and acts like Mother Theresa. I´m not friends with any drug lords from the mexican cartel ( not that I know of ) but I´m sure they´re supposed to be THE most feared people alive ( them and the Russian Mafia ). The author did a splendid job in making me never want to visit Mexico ever again. Lol

There was a lot of detail in this book (which I appreciated). No matter if it was the scenery, the characters, the torture….the vivid images were there. Some were fabulous and some were utterly gruesome. I just loved it.

Characters:

Javier ( hero ) was one cool SOB. I swear…even if he wasn´t displayed as the most beautiful male alive, he was sexy as hell. The way he treated Luisa was twisted but oh soooo good. * sigh *

Luisa ( heroine ) was a tough cookie. Unbelievable things happened to her, yet she was still determined to fight. Her life starts off shitty then turns into hell. Could Luisa´s life get any worse? Of course. And that´s what happened.

I don´t want to give anything away from the story because it´s really worth the read.

If you´re into captivating, brutal, twisted, bloody, abusive, dark lovestories, then you´ll love this one.

The Law Of Kings – Jennifer Loren

The Law Of Kings

Release date: June 26,2014

Divas Thoughts

This author never fails to amaze me.

I read The Law Of Kings and I was once again sucked into a world with characters I wish were real.

I just love criminals. Especially the ones created by this author. Dace, and his three other brothers, belong to a well respected ( and well feared ) mafia family. With their family name they have the power to get anything or do anything they want * sigh, swoon*

If I were one of the Colletto´s I´d walk in Mc Donalds and order a cheeseburger. I just know I´d get one looking exactly like the cheeseburgers they show in the TV commercials. Just like that. * double sigh* Anyways……..

This family had it in them to move heaven and hell until one day the family was torn apart by awful events. After the family reunion ( years later ) all four brothers intensified in character.

Michael, Ettore, Dace and Antony couldn´t have been any more different from one another even if they tried. And as for their jobs…..well let´s say they were just as different but still connected. They all work for and against each other. How exciting..:-) I LOVED IT!

I actually got a kick out of all the characters from this book. From the mafia gang to the cops….all loveable. It´s a good versus evil kind of story. Only question is: Who is good and who is evil? Who is trying to fuck who over? This author keeps you guessing which dickhead wants who dead all the time!

Not to forget the sexy love intrest in this story. What went down between Austin ( heroine ) and Dace was something totally emotional in every way possible. I was shocked, I laughed alot, and I was hurting for these two. My God…the stuff they went through was unbelievable.

It was a dark, full of action, mafia ROMANCE ( honestly….the romance in this one nearly killed me. That´s how GOOD it was * wink wink*) with a touch of pure awesomeness. Deadly, sexy to the core!

the law of kings

My opinion on the author:

I´ve read every book written by this author and I can easily say she´s created a small masterpiece with this one. I hardly read a book that has everything I crave for in it. I LOVE angst, I LOVE not knowing what will happen next, I LOVE strong characters with realistic backgrounds, I LOVE to torture myself with the idea that the events I read about can happen in real life, and I LOVE when a story has a dialogue I can keep up with. Jennifer Loren creates characters who aren´t broken…they become broken ( more or less ) at some point in her stories. They´re all pretty normal until shit hits the fan. That shows me, as a reader, that this author has it in her to gradually create a disaster instead of throwing it in at the very beginning. But what I personally enjoy the most is her talent for balance. The characters in her books have their fair share of good and bad moments. Life can´t be 100% crappy, right? Jennifer Loren is a wickedly cool rockstar author with a badass talent for writing unforgettable stories.

If you´re a fan of this author´s The Devil´s Eyes series…then The Law Of Kings will blow your mind.

Would I recommend this book?

F**K YEAH!

Would I re-read this book?

Oooooh yes I would.

Review

This is probably one of the hardest reviews I have ever had to do simply because there’s nothing I can write that won’t, even in the slightest, give the ending away!

So, I suppose I will just tell you that Calia Read really did a fantastic job at writing this book although I definitely questioned it as I was reading.  At times, I was very confused and thinking she either missed some things in the editing process or I’m just not getting it.  Okay, to be perfectly honest I just thought it was her fault…hehe 🙂 but I was nicely surprised when I realized there was a method to her madness so to speak!

The story did captivated me enough to not have been able to put it down essentially making me completely useless to my family all day but hey, it’s good for them to fend for themselves occasionally, right?! I loved how this story plays out! Unravel by Calia Read gets 4 out of 5 champagne glasses from us! Make sure to put this one on your TBR list, in fact go click on the link below and get it now!

Monster In His Eyes ( Monster In His Eyes #1) – J. M. Darhower

monster in his eyes

Book Description

Ignazio Vitale is not a good man.

I suspect it, the first time I see him, sense the air of danger that surrounds the man. He has a way of commanding attention, of taking control, of knowing what I’m thinking before I even do.

It’s alarming and alluring. It’s dark and deadly. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted but the last thing I truly need. Obsession.

It doesn’t take him long to draw me into his web, charming me into his bed and trapping me in his life, a life I know nothing about until it’s too late. He has secrets, secrets I can’t fathom, secrets that make it so I can’t walk away, no matter how much I beg him to let me go. I see it sometimes in his eyes, a darkness that’s both terrifying and thrilling. He’s a monster, wrapped up in a pretty package, and what I find when I unmask him changes everything.

I want to hate him.

Sometimes, I do.

But it doesn’t stop me from loving him, too.

Divas Thoughts

Jesus, Mary & Joseph! What the…? How the hell..? Where did this book come from? And why in God´s name were we staring at the cover for nearly a week, having doubts about this book?

There are times where we would like to kick ourselves just because we feel we have too. NOW is that time.

This, dear followers / friends, is another wonderful mind screwing novel! No shit. We admit…we haven´t read anything from this author before. And we have another reason to give ourselves a good kick in the ass. The writing style was impeccable and the story was dark, dangerous, and captivating. There was hardly a moment we hoped nothing terrible would happen.

That´s just it! You don´t wait for the big surprise in this book, you hope to God that there isn´t a surprise at all because you want these characters to survive. But survive what?

We´d say this book is semi predictable because a reader knows something will happen from the very beginning. Something that might change the characters feelings, or even their relationship. You can´t really put your finger on it, but you definitely don´t want it or anything to happen…

Karissa Reed is a normal 18 year old college student who lives off of Ramen soup. One day after one of Karissas classes she notices her missing phone and goes back to get it. Right there in the classroom was a man who would change her life forever.

Naz ( Ignazio Vitale ) was a man who had it all ( + some more ). He was handsome as hell and had a frightening attitude to compliment his features. In short: Beneath the pretty shell was something dark.

Funny thing was….through out the complete book a reader gets the good side of Naz. He treats Karissa with so much respect and love, showering her with everything she would ask for. His purpose in life was to make sure Karissa was happy in every way possible. Karissa on the other hand just wanted Naz. * sigh *

Until the moment came…….

The dialogue in this book was kept simple and yet very interesting. There was no beating-around-the-bush. No trying to sugar coat anything. There was no hiding. NADA. Well….not that Karissa was aware of…:-)

We loved how this book had a steady pace and how it kept us guessing when the big BANG would happen.

And the sex…..dear God…..let there be a freezer good enough to cool us down!

This book will shock you in the best way ever. You will be left speechless and you will sure as hell suffer from an awful book-hangover.

We need the second book. There is no other way we can find happiness until we know what will happen to Karissa! So frustrating! We hate it when we have to wait.

We wish there were more books out there like this one. Monster In His Eyes is a 100% dark suspence romance that will screw with your emotions.
