Divas Thoughts

*deep breath *

I´m going to be very VERY generous about this series. I´m going to rate the series now instead of this book alone because I can´t stomache the thought from starting out with 4* then going down to 3* and then ending with 2*. Which was exactly what happened. I´d rate this book with a solid 2* because it was disappointing in so many ways.

If I compare book 1 to book 3 then there´s a major difference in the whole story. There was nothing left from the woman who hid in the dark. Hell…she was long gone with book #2 and was replaced with a woman who was anything but likable. Everything….I really mean everything happened in a blur.

After all was good again with Alex and Daimon, and all obsticals were pushed aside ( okay…they were killed. End of) they were out to kill the princess of Monaco! Again…I had such a hard time picturing the Grimaldi´s as they were discribed in this series.

To make a long rant short:

I thought there would be a hell lot more killing ( considering their abilities and all) and also alot more ruthlessness. I mean…Daimon was a killer for crying out loud. And nothing happened. Important characters were left to live their lives and the unimportant characters were killed.

Plus…the full truth about Alex was told in this book. Unimpressive.

And the end…..well, I´d rather not go there now. Let´s just say I was totally disappointed.

Now…there is one thing that won´t leave me alone. Why write a series with each book having less than 300 pages? Why not take the story and just make one book out of it? It just doesn´t make any sense to me.

The story could have fit into 1 book. Easily.

And then there´s the cover. It´s supposed to be a series…..so why not make the covers match?

This wasn´t the worst series I´ve read…..it started of fab and turned out not so fab.

Would I recommend this book?

This book? Vol. 3? No. I wouldn´t. The series? Yeah. Why not. Just because I was disappointed doesn´t mean everyone else will be.

Would I re-read this book?

Nope.

The Divas are giving the Unmasked Vol. 1 – 3 by Cassia Leo a total of 3 out of 5 champagne glasses.

Ugly Love – Colleen Hoover

ugly love_cover_FINAL

Book Description

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Divas Thoughts

There were three reasons why I wanted to read this book SOOO badly.

  1. The cover ( the cover alone should receive a 5 out of 5 rating!)
  2. the book description ( caught my attention )
  3. well, D´uh. It´s a Colleen Hoover novel. ( oh, do I love Colleen Hoover´s writing )

After reading her little novella, Finding Cinderella ( which was cute and all), I was more than happy to dive into something new from this author. Something awesome that would make me cry in a way only Colleen Hoover could make me.

I was ready. God, I couldn´t wait to get my hands on this one. I felt like I was standing in the cold, infront of some electronic store for hours, eager to be the first to get my hands on the newest Playstation. Well, I got the book. I read the book. Now, after reading Ugly Love I feel kind of unsatisfied.

After reading super, emotionally powerful books by the author before I thought there wasn´t a story she couldn´t write about.

Maybe I was wrong.

Ugly Love didn´t do anything for me. I tried. I really did. I can´t decide if it was the writing, the story in general, or the characters that ruined it for me….but I felt nothing. Tate and Miles ( main characters ) were charmless figures for me. I disliked both. Tate was this slouchy heroine who was weak. Throughout the story her behavior didn´t improve. Normally, a weak character grows slowly, or gains strength through small acts. Not this one. But what was worse for me was Miles took advantage of Tate.

And the drama in this book didn´t touch me either. Miles had a past. Okay. But I´m at a point where I´m thinking: „ Don´t we all have an ugly past?“ . There´s only so much ugly drama you can take in while reading a novel. I was far from impressed.

I´m not saying I hated this book. I didn´t. It just wasn´t what I was used too by this author. The story might be for others really good….just not so much for me. I´ll still rate this book with a fairly good rating because I adore the cover and the author. If it weren´t for those 2 facts then I´d definitely be giving this one less. And whats also great is that this book is a stand-alone. In my opinion…I´m glad that authors are going back to writing just a solid 1 book story. They´re so rare these days.

Would I recommend this book?

I´d recommend Ugly Love to any COHO fans. It wasn´t my cup of tea, but yeah. Why not.

Would I re-read this book?

Probably not.

Hardpressed ( The Hacker Series #2 ) – Meredith Wild

Hardpressed hacker #2

Book Description

Despite Blake Landon’s controlling ways, the young and wealthy hacker finally won the trust of the woman he loves. Internet entrepreneur Erica Hathaway broke down the walls that kept her from opening her heart and her business to Blake.

Ready to start this new chapter in her life, Erica is determined not to let anything come between them, even if that means giving Blake back some of the control he craves in and out of the bedroom.

But when demons from her past threaten their future, Erica makes a decision that could change their lives forever

Divas Thoughts

Dear Lord. I kind of need a cooler filled with ice to stick my head in after finishing this book. And I thought the first book was good * sheesh *. Hardpressed ( #2 ) is actually just a simple continuation of Blake Landon and Erica Hathaway´s story. And yet here I am….dying to know more about these characters and wanting more insight on their lives. You can judge me all you want for being creepy. Go ahead…. But that still won´t change my feelings towards this story.

The story was unique. Easy for the mind, and exciting as hell. How do you handle a relationship with a guy (who has more money than he can spend ) who wants to take care of you 24/7? Some women might enjoy giving up a good portion of their independence and submit to a guy. Not Erica. Erica is fine with being dominated in the bedroom but she wants to keep business and pleasure as far apart as possible. Which is ( in my humble opinion ) totally acceptable. Erica worked hard and wasn´t about to let Blake roll on over and take care of things for her. The constant fight for keeping control over her own personal issues was exhausting for Erica….but not for me! I enjoyed every single moment she fought for her control. Then the issues her close friend dealt with affected her as well and then came Erica´s dirty past into the picture. To top everything else…Blake wanted her to emotionally open up to him and give him control over the one thing that meant so much to her. In short: Erica had a tough time dealing with everything.

Personally….I´m not fond of someone wanting total access in every area of my life. If my husband ever acted like Blake….I´d file for a divorce. But it worked for this story and the characters.

Blake is a very dominating man but he isn´t the Dom – overload type. He has his beliefs and dreams and what not. All in all he´s just a good guy with special need to control. Erica is a character I prefer to see in stories. Strong, emotional, ambitious and stubborn. So, what happens when two strong people cross each other?

Many mistakes and poor decisions are made by these characters. But the question is: Can Blake and Erica over come the problems they have together? Will their issues break them apart or will they master whatever life throws their way?

A wondeful creative story about love, loss, the future and the many possibilities that can happen if you make the wrong choice.

Loved Loved Loved this book. A must have for all romance, Alpha male lovers!

Would I recommend this book?

Yes. I most certainly would.

Would I re-read this book?

You can bet your ass I will. * giggle *

Throwback Thursday – High Noon by Nora Roberts

high noon

When thinking about what to do for Throwback Thursday, I decided to pay tribute to one of the first authors and books that made me fall absolutely in love with suspenseful romance novels.  Nora Roberts has always been my go-to author when in need of a really great mystery/romance!  With over 200 novels under her belt, Nora is truly a great story teller.  Each and every one that I have read (I’m looking at at least 50-100 on my bookshelf as I type this) have been very well written with great characters and even better stories!

High Noon is just one of many of hers that stand out to me as a great book to curl up with while wrapped in a blanket drinking a cup of coffee (or in my case, a few glasses of wine).  Like many if not all of her female characters; Phoebe MacNamara is a strong, successful woman who won’t go down without a fight!  The plot will keep you guessing until the end and the romance between Phoebe and Duncan is just as enticing!  You truly can’t go wrong with any of her books!

Synopsis

Police Lieutenant Phoebe MacNamara found her calling at an early age, when a violently unstable man broke into her family’s home, trapping and terrorizing them for hours. Now she’s Savannah’s top hostage negotiator, who puts her life on the line every day to defuse powder-keg situations. Phoebe knows when to reach out and when to pull back – and when to jump in and take action, even if it means risking everything. It’s satisfying work – and sometimes those skills come in handy at home when Phoebe deals with her agoraphobic mother, still traumatized by the break-in after all these years, and her precocious seven-year-old daughter, Carly. It’s exactly that heady combination of steely courage and sensitivity that first attracts Duncan Swift to Phoebe. After watching her talk one of his employees off a roof ledge, he is committed to keeping this intriguing, take-charge woman in his life. Phoebe’s used to working solo, but she’s finding that no amount of negotiation can keep Duncan at arm’s length. When she’s grabbed by a man who throws a hood over her head and brutally assaults her – in her own precinct house – Phoebe can’t help being deeply shaken. And when threatening messages appear on her doorstep, she’s not just alarmed but frustrated. How do you go face-to-face with an opponent who refuses to look you in the eye? Now, with Duncan backing her up every step of the way, she must establish contact with the faceless tormentor who is determined to make her a hostage to fear – before she becomes the final showdown.
