The Devil´s Son ( # 3 The Devil´s Eyes) – Jennifer Loren

The Devils son cover

The Devil´s Son is the third book from The Devil´s Eyes series by the lovely Jennifer Loren, and I have to admit….this one shocked and surprised me! When did a story that started out oh so sassy / hot / badass / and completely sexed up sexy turn into paranormal? NEVER did I see that one coming.

You know….when I read a book and the main male character gets ( in some way or another) introduced…they ALL have something mystical about them. Their captivating / hypnotizing eyes, their godly shaped face, etc. And with this book it was no different for me, until I came to the part where I started questioning the genre. lol. Was it still romance? hmm…of course! Was it more than I had hoped it would be? Hell yeah! With the new twist of events….I was more in love with this series than ever.

The second book , The Devil´s Revenge, ends with huge spoiler for readers to know what person is next on Nick´s death-list. And THAT person is not one who anyone wants to deal with. Dennis Savage is everyone´s nightmare! The ULTIMATE EVIL. Anyone who had the pleasure to get into his way was brutally killed. I even felt the need to silently walk away, even though I was safe and sound in my livingroom.

And there are only 2 people who want Savage dead. Simone ( the new chief of police and brother inlaw to Nick) and of course, Nick himself. Alot goes down in this book. There were many flashbacks ( ooooh, I love scenes from the past!! ) and therefor, many questions were answered regarding Franky, Nick´s parents, and Nick´s siblings.
Let´s not forget that Dennis Savage also played a huge roll in the flashbacks, so that was very informative and a delight to read about! The author has a way of coloring out an enthralling scene and for that I was greatful! Because….I wouldn´t have feared Savage so much, nor would I have felt the love Nick showed and the loss he went through or still had ahead of him. ( wanna know who all these people are and what important role they play in Nick´s life?…Buy the book! lol)

The new characters in this book were much more scary and made the characters from the previous books seem like pickpockets. These new characters would have made me pack my guns and run for the hills. I was mentally screaming at the good guys ( THAT is….if you can call a criminal a good guy,…still working that one out for myself) to run and hide under a bridge and get new identities, but NO! They had to go and take it up with the almighty evil!

The pure evilness ( Savage ) had other plans up his sleeve and wanted to force Nick´s future, his fate upon him, no matter what it took. And that meant, going to extremes to make

The Devils Son 1

things happen. But, try to cross a man´s path when he tries to keep his family safe….( ooooh, how fun!!)

Maybe it was just me being ignorant ( or being in love with Nick….* pathetic giggle* ), but I didn´t see any paranormal activities in the first two books. The title of this book should have bitten me in the ass, because… does look quite paranormal too me now….* shaking head * Nick´s life seemed so realistic in book 1 + 2. But bringing in some demon like creature into the game was a total welcome! It fit perfectly.

Everything in this book was intense. Nick´s fears, the angst, the love… was all doubled and made the whole story even more exciting.

The Devils Son 2

I was holding my breath during the last quarter of the book. All the hope I had for Nick and Kayla, for their friends ( especially Elijah…I heart the guy) , for their family was hanging on a thin thread. I was a total mess with the last part. I was very anxious, and I don´t do anxious! Nick would do anything for his own family, but will it be enough to save them from all the evil that´s just around the corner? Can the Jayzon family survive fate? I have absolutely no clue myself. lol…..But what I do know is that this book was AWESOME!

Even if you´re not a huge paranormal fan….you will fall in love with this book. There isn´t even a fraction of paranormal-overload here. There´s enough emotion to get you on the edge and pull you back to misery. This book will most likely NOT DISAPPOINT!

Raine Miller Spotlight Interview and Eyes Wide Open review

There is too much to celebrate in the Raine Miller world today!!  First off, we had the honored privilege of spending some time with the lovely Raine this weekend at the Naughty Mafia Rocks Las Vegas book signing event and we didn’t realize we could love her anymore than we already did but it happened!  She was such a joy to talk with and to be around!  Second, along with August being the one year anniversary of Naked (the first book in her Blackstone Affair series), Eyes Wide Open will be available in paperback today, August 20, 2013!  We decided we needed to re-post our review for Eyes Wide Open along with our interview with Raine.  Thank you, Raine, for taking the time to answer our questions.  Enjoy!

Our ReviewEWO

The third book in Raine Miller’s Blackstone Affair series definitely did not disappoint! If you thought you couldn’t fall more in love with Ethan and Brynne, well guess again. Their love story rocketed into a new dimension in Eyes Wide Open!

The story obviously begins where All In left off; at Hannah’s (Ethan’s sister) majestic beach-front Bed and Breakfast. We immediately are shown the softer, funner side to Ethan making you feel all warm and tingly inside. Their would-be nice, quiet yet steamy, romantic weekend takes a twist in fate when they receive some shocking news that neither of them are prepared for. Being the superman Ethan is, he is quick to take on the task as Brynne’s steady and loving rock in which his absolute love for her becomes even more apparent (if that were even possible!) Once home in London, and with the Olympics getting closer, Ethan goes through his days as the all-powerful CEO of his international security company; getting everything in order for his high-profile clients while managing to remain the most perfect and attentive man with Brynne {**sigh**}. And those are just his days… Let’s not forget about how he loves to spend his nights!! All I gotta say is Brynne is one lucky woman in that department!!!

Brynne continues to make progress in exercising her demons from her past with her therapist and is becoming more and more at ease with the knowledge of her deep and binding love for Ethan when tragedy strikes. Of course, Ethan, being the perfect man he is, drops everything to remain by her side during one of the most horrific times in her life. Together, they move forward as their love grows to unimaginable depths! Seriously, Raine has created the most perfect man and somehow keeps making him even more incredible as the story progresses!

Now, here’s the only thing that didn’t sit well with me and it’s SO minor that it didn’t necessarily take away from the book but it was just right there on the tip of my mind while reading. Ethan and Brynne’s love story begins and is centered around this big possible threat against her. Well, I felt that part of the story fizzled a little in this book. Don’t get me wrong; it’s there, just not as much as I would’ve liked. The climactic event happens and details are revealed but felt somewhat rushed to me. With that being said, bad guy loses, good guy wins, and Ethan and Brynne are left to live happily ever after; a perfect love story and one that I would recommend for all to read! Raine Miller has, once again, delivered an amazing story; drawing the reader completely into the beautiful world of Ethan Blackstone and Brynne Bennett. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for these two in her fourth Blackstone Affair book, which she says will be more of a standalone story of our favorite couple and I’m sure will be just as outstanding as the other three!

We simply cannot show more love for this book and this series! Raine Miller….the three of us bow before you!

The Divas are giving EYES WIDE OPEN a 5 out of 5 Champagne glasses ( even though this series should get much more!)!

Raine Miller Interview

Raine 2Divas: What was your favorite part when writing about Brynne and Ethan?

Raine: The instant chemistry the two of them had.  I don’t know why, but the first book just flowed out of me.  It was so easy to     write.  I loved how both of them were resistant to the magnetic pull and couldn’t deny it.

Divas: What inspired you to write about two broken souls like Brynne and Ethan?

Raine: Serendipity I guess.  I was writing another book (Gabrielle and Ivan’s actually) when I found the cover image I ended up using for Naked.  I stopped everything I was working on to write Naked.  It all just came together and the story jelled for me.  I wrote the first book in 3 weeks, published it and the book took off.

Divas: If I wasn’t afraid, I would __________. (What)

Raine: Move to Ireland.

Divas: What is the best thing you have done in your life?

Raine: Become a mother.

Divas: List 3 adjectives to describe yourself.

Raine: Creative. Exacting. Critical.

Divas: If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be?

Raine: Do those things that make you happy.

Divas: What are your favorite authors and how have they inspired your writing?

Raine: JR Ward for her brilliantly created Brotherhood and skill at writing the male voice.  Nobody crafts a story like her.  Ken Follett for his magnificent historical epics and how he takes history and weaves those true events into a work of fiction.  Jean Auel for her prehistoric epic tales that have captivated me for decades.  A few others I read anything they write:  Elizabeth Hoyt, Katie Ashley,  and RK Lilley.

Divas: If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have one book with you, what would it be?

Raine: The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

Divas: Why did you decide to make Simba a fish?

Raine: I have no idea.  I just liked the idea of a salt water aquarium and since I’ve had one of those, I knew enough about it to write it.  The aquarium store (Fountaine’s) is based on a real store of the same name in San Diego where I bought all my fish and supplies.  Lion fish are awesome to watch.  My friend, Franziska Popp actually wrote the Simba story that was added to the end of All In when it was originally self published.

Divas: We have to know!  Will you be writing a spin-off about Ivan?

Raine: Yes, I am.  That’s common knowledge and the title of that series is called The Rothvale Legacy.

Divas: So, we all know that the BEAUTIFUL David Gandy is your muse for Ethan but did he ever have any competition in your eyes? If not, and Gandy wasn’t in existence (heaven forbid) who would be your next choice?

Raine: Never any competition.  I had been following David Gandy for a couple years when I started writing Naked.  I knew I would use him as my muse at some point, and when I started to write Ethan Blackstone he came out looking like Gandy so I knew I had finally found my character.  If Mr. Gandy was not in existence then probably one of the Spanish models like Oriol Elcacho or Jon Kortajarena would be an inspiration to me.

Divas: Why did you choose London as the scene of your books?

Raine: I love that city with all of my heart.  I could stay there for months and not get tired of it.  I wanted to explore the theme of an American heroine and a British hero.

Divas: Would you ever like to see your books turned into a movie and if so who would play the characters?

Raine: Screenplay is being written as we speak, and it is a dream to see my books make it on the screen.  Who know if it ever happens, but it is an aspiration.  There is only one person who could play Ethan Blackstone in my mind and I’m pretty sure you know who he is.

Divas: Were any of the scenes in the book written from your personal life experiences?

Raine: Hmmmm…I must be careful how I answer this one.  The major themes of trauma and heartbreak?  No.  Those are fictional.

Divas: Someday I want to __________. (What)

Raine: Meet JR Ward (The Warden) in person.

Divas: Can you tell us about your next project?

I am excited about what I am working on right this moment.  It is an anthology called Stories For Amanda and is to benefit anti-bullying in honor of AmandaTodd.  There are thirteen authors who are contributing a short story to this anthology.  I am one of them.  My story is related to Blackstone Affair in that it is the backstory for Ethan’s #1, Neil McManus and his fiancé Elaina.

Also in the works is Blackstone #4 which is planned for a late 2013 release.

The Devil´s Revenge ( #2 The Devil´s Eyes) – Jennifer Loren

The devils Revenge cover

The Devils Revenge is the second installment of the Devil´s Eyes Series by Jennifer Loren and if I thought the fist one almost killed my emotional household….then this one really made me feel worse and at the same time sooo much better.

Due to the God-awful cliffhanger from the last book * The Devil´s Eyes* I was left with a hole in my heart and I wanted to read more about Nick ( I promised myself I wouldn´t write so much about the guy this time….) ..* Nick!! I LOVE YOUUU!*….Okay… that we´ve established my love for the irresistible criminal, I shall continue with this review. lol

I also have to warn ahead…I cannot write this review without giving anything away. There will be spoilers ( small ones, I promise!) I will also add that I read the series back to back…meaning, I had the second book already in my hands so I was more than delighted that I wouldn´t be in a bitchy mood after book 1. Don´t you just hate when you have to wait 6 months or MORE for the next book? I hate that, because I forget about the series during that time….that sucks. Oh well…..( focus!!)

So, Nick was gone and he left his wife, Kayla and their son Nicky alone with Nicks secret brother, Ryan. Not so bad considering the fact that Ryan and Nick were in some way alike. Ryan was supposed to keep Nick´s wife and child safe from all of those who wanted the complete Jayzon Family dead. The evil enemies from Nick were dead set on taking them down no matter what. Kayla and Ryan had a little smootchy wootchy moment, but luckily, Kayla ruined everything by calling Ryan Nick. lol ( now we ´ve got that covered…) After a while….Kayla got tired from hiding and went back to live her life and rebuild her late husbands emporium. She set up a plan that actually worked for a while, but then her crook days were over and the beautiful Kayla made more enemies than she could handle..( Sound confusing? I bet it the book,,you´ll know what I´m talking

You know…the part where she decided to go all Mafia Boss on everyone´s ass made me so happy! Not that I love criminals…..Naah, I´m good with my blogging, thanks. I don´t support them in real life either…I just think it´s exciting to read about..:-) ANYWAYS….Kayla was in this book a mess. The death of Nick nearly broke her to pieces and I had the impression that she wouldn´t make it through the story without him. Kayla didn´t really have any clue as to what Nick actually did for a living…but she could only imagine it wasn´t the norm. Taking matters in her owns hands gave her the feeling that her husband was still with her. In some twisted way. And with Ryan always with her to protect her….her life wasn´t really anymore easy because Ryan reminded her of Nick. One lame mistake put Kayla in jail and thats when the fun started..:-)

NICK WAS ALIVE!!! Kayla´s miserable days were over!!! ( so I thought..)….

The Devils revenge 1

That, my dear readers, was only the very beginning of the book. There is so much info packed into this story that it would make it impossible for me to write a simple review. All I can say is that I almost dropped dead when Nick came back. The story got really interesting once he returned in the picture. There was alot of making up to do with Kayla, then they had to come up with a plan to get to the core of everything. Get all the bad guys killed and all. ( oooh, how exciting!! * clapping hands* ) The author made sure that nothing was left out in this book. I´m telling you…..There was brutal killing and a whole lot of sexiness in this book. A perfect combination for a hot, sizzling story! The writing style was fantastic and I had no problem at all picturing or feeling the scenes. The love felt realistic, and the angst was unbearable.

The characters were again…..great, but besides my love for Nick….I really loved Nick´s friend, Elijah. I loved his attitude! Perfect guy next to Nick and all the other Book Boyfriends:-)

The Devils Revenge 2

I was rooting when Nick got to his last item on his list. Haha….The words ” You´re dead” sent chills down my spine and it also thrilled me to bits reading them at that particular scene! So so exciting!
The cliffhanger in this book was okay. It didn´t seem like one, but you def. knew the story had to continue! There are too many questions that need some answers and book 3 , The Devil´s Son, has them!

This book was fantastic, great, fab, grand, and way cool! I felt like I was one of Nicks gang and I was totally ready to kick some ass on my own! That´s how awesome this story was. If you loved the first book you will love this one.

The Divas are giving The Devil´s Revenge ( # 2 The Devil´s Eyes ) by Jennifer Loren 5 out of 5 ice cold champagne glasses!

The Devil´s Eyes (#1 The Devil´s Eyes) – Jennifer Loren

The Devils eyes cover

Never in my entire life have I wanted to be the wife of a criminal sooooo bad! lol…..And never have I had the urge to become a member of a deadly group that belonged to Nicholas Jayzon * trying to escape the daydream! swoon!!*

” The Devil´s Eyes* is the first installment of The Devil´s Eyes Series by Jennifer Loren and it blew me away! This book set my standards up really high regarding romance. I don´t even know if I can call this book a romance because it sure as hell didn´t feel like one. But the romance that was in this story had me craving for more! I came across this book through a recommendation and it was the best suggestion EVER from anyone!

I don´t know about you…..but I totally love the big, bad, untouchable, suit wearing, hot looking ( he´s worth taking a 10 minute cold shower), gun holding, bad ass criminal, who had everything he ever wanted and more! ( That´s so sexy!)

The Devil´s Eyes started out with Kayla, a strong headed young woman who wanted nothing more than to kill the man who was responsible for her sisters death, Nick. While Kayla knew the guy was hard to get too she decided to work for him, at one of his many clubs, as a dancer….and kill him herself since no one else was capable of doing so.

Once inside and closer to Nick, Kayla gets more and more involved into other jobs for the crook and starts seeing another side of the unforgiving Nick. Not that that would make her change her course of actions. Nope. Even feeling the odd pull towards Nick, she wants at least some justice in life.

But one enemy after another ( of Nick´s…of course…) gets into her way, plus some changes of events happen and her feelings for the scumbag change. ( woo-hoo!) That´s when I completely started to ignore everything around me! lol….

This book was just so cool. It was nothing I imagined it would be. And still….it had all I ever wanted in a book! The Devil´s Eyes had the full range of feelings and I was anxious to turn the page…waiting for the next shocking moment. All the characters were tough and bad ass but also 100% enjoyable! Every single character had their own voice and I had a blast with the visuals..:-) Some seemed so creepy and others were simply awesome.
The way the characters communicated ( you know….the “no bullshit” attitude..) with each other was also great. I believe that´s what also made this book enjoyable and easy to read. There was a lot of shooting, killing, threatening, begging ( not only in a sexual way) and so much more ass kicking and I wasn´t allowed to dislike this story at all. * giggle*

I also felt the need to take another additional 10 minute cold shower after reading the sexual tension / build-up and sex scenes…..HOLY MOLY! Those scenes were hot, y´all!!

The whole book was one big surprise and when I thought I had it all figured out…..things changed. BOOM! I was left with a stunned expression that never left my face.

Nearing the end of the story, I felt as if someone was killing me. I hated and loved the last part of the book. I was devastated, in agony, and happy….That really says alot ..The Devils eyes Teaser 1

The cliffhanger ending wasn´t that bad, so I really liked that….lol….And before I knew it…..I looked out of my livingroom window and saw the sun coming back up. I finished this book without a break ( which shocked me bad ) but it was so worth it!

If you´re into classy criminals ( Nick Jayzon!! aaaah!) who kill and love without regret, or if you like strong characters who will stop for nothing to get what they want…..then you will enjoy this book! I totally promise!!

Oh and before I forget: The super sexy guy on the cover of The Devil´s Eyes is no other than model Lionel Clerc himself!!! ( That little info def. knocked ME off my feet!) The graphic designer probably had a lot of fun working with this cover!

She knows all too well what it’s like to be the one on the losing end of life, which is why she’s made it her personal mission in life to save as many lives as possible. Jane’s Melody by Ryan Winfield

What boundaries would you cross for love?

That’s the question a grieving mother must answer when she takes in a young street musician to learn about her daughter’s death and finds herself falling for him. A touching love story that will have you equally tantalized and in tears, Jane’s Melody follows a forty-year-old woman on a romantic journey of rediscovery after years of struggling alone.

Sometimes our greatest gifts come from our greatest pain. And now Jane must decide if it’s too late for her to start over, or if true love really knows no age.

Jane’s Melody may not be suitable for younger readers due to sexual content.

 My Review

Jane’s Melody was a beautiful and touching story that just about ripped my heart out!  I’ll be honest, if you aren’t into stories that will sadden you throughout, then this isn’t the book for you.  I happen to love my heart being pulled in fifty million directions and fell in love with this book immediately!  From the moment I opened to the first page, I was on the verge of tears and my chest remained tight until the end.

As a mother, the last thing I ever want to learn is how it feels to bury my child so when reading about the main character, Jane, going through this horrible ordeal, I just wanted to hug her, comfort her, and cry with her.  Her journey when trying to cope with her tragedy was realistic and inspiring as she fought with herself on how she should move forward.  Finding happiness in the love of a younger man, Caleb, brought on feelings for Jane that were both wonderful and laden with guilt.  Could and should she be happy when her daughter is dead?  Can she selfishly keep Caleb to herself when he has his whole life ahead of him and dreams left unfinished? Will she be able to move on and live the life she deserves?

Ryan Winfield did an amazing job with these characters and made me feel every bit of the sadness, the fear, the happiness, and the love they endured throughout the book.  It was very well-written and flowed beautifully through each step of her journey of recovery and rediscovery.  I highly recommend reading Jane’s Melody by Ryan Winfield!  The Divas give this book 4.5 out of 5 champagne glasses!  Trust me, you’ll need a few while you’re reading it!!

I Surrender ( #1 I Surrender Trilogy) – Monica James

I surrender

Finally! The Divas found another book worthy enough to be placed on our sacred golden bookshelf! I SURRENDER ( #1 I Surrender Trilogy) by the talented Monica James was a fantastic read! This book had it all and never once disappointed!

Most of us normal people have been through some tough nasty break-ups and we also had to endure the ugly side-affects that came with getting dumped. I SURRENDER starts out with the exact same situation all of us don´t want to go through ever again! The author had the uncanny ability to make you feel just as shitty as her character did.
( Note to author: NOT COOL!

So, the book starts out with Ava, a young woman, who got dumped in the most God-awful way anyone can imagine, by the love of her life…..asshat Harper. Ava never saw it coming and it crushed her into a million pieces. When flying back home, the broken Ava had other things on her mind than moving on with her life. How was she ever going to live a life without Harper? Well….. broken sulking Ava returns to home and goes out with her bestie and meets HIM…* swooon, faint, can someone catch us over here??*..We can hardly write his name without getting all worked up! Jasper was the guy who captured Ava´s attention, and from then on…..the awful twisting and turning begins!

We loved this book! We loved each and every character and the story was so well written. The way the author put Ava through hell was so devastating, it hurt us just reading about what the poor girl felt ( what a shitty feeling that was….) The beautiful Ava was so caught up in Harper that she neglected her own persona. She even left the country with him just to be with him! And he thanked her by dumping her. * we would have knocked him cold if he pulled that crap on us….just sayin´*

Jasper was ther perfect rockstar. He had the looks, the attitude, he had a soft side and of course, he had so much love for Ava it hurt us just reading about how he was so in love with that woman! And on top of that…he was honest and wanted nothing more than to make the relationship with Ava work. But with Ava´s insecurities life wasn´t as peachy as it should have been. Harper´s shadow was still hanging onto Ava and she wasn´t sure if she could love Jasper the way he deserved to be loved She wasn´t even sure if she was enough for him. Ava was keeping her emotions sometimes at a safe distance and that was, sort of, not understandable AT ALL because Jasper was her perfect match! Everybody knows that its hard to forget your first true love…..but Ava had such a hard time letting him go. She even did a few things that even left us Divas thinking : ” Oh no you don´t, girlfriend! Just shut up and keep those lips moving before you ruin everything!!” Haha….too late.

Their relationship grew thoughout the whole book ( including the usual ups and downs) which was fantastic because that didn´t feel rushed like other relationships do in other books. Ava and Jaspers love bloomed slowly. We really enjoyed reading about them.

The sub characters fit perfectly as the main characters friends and we loved them just as much. V was such a cutie and we loved her dearly. The only sub character we hated was Jaspers first love / only friend ( back in the days) Indie…..That woman was just asking for some duck-tape and we really felt the need to keep her away from Ava and Jasper! ( what an awful bitch!!)

The end was what really had our stomaches in knots! The end made us want to hunt the author down! If there is any possible way to express how we feel about the last part of the book…then we would share it with you. But we can´t! Our thoughts were…” NOOOOOOOOO!” …then came ….” You´ve got to be kidding !!!”….and then we were like….” OH JESUS!…..WHY??????”….If you catch yourself with a stunned expression on your face after the last page….then the book really did a number on you..:-) That´s what happened with us when we finished I Surrender. We were speechless and also very angry…lol…..But only because we have to wait until we can read the second book! If you love reading about love and the way love can screw things up…..and if you enjoy angsty devastingly nasty endings ( awful, gut wrenching cliffhanger, people! ) then you will love I Surrender. The Divas Book Blog really recommend this book to anybody who is into Romance and New Adult stories…..this one is a keeper!
